    Scored a TH350 to make my '62 Stude wagon a basic runner (no trans for its stock mill, which I'm saving for the '28 Stude proj). Very interested in decoding it to know what, exactly it came out of. The Interwebs looking gl*** has helped only so much...
    With Cx stamp, I know it's pre-Aug 1968, the stamp on side o pan (JD13D) at least tells 4/13/69, tho don't know the "J" or the following 5JC figure.
    Plate behind torque verter features 8K 6260233
    A # at tailshaft: 28L164438 and a 78 in a circle. Thanks for any help.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

    78 means it's a 1978 casting date.

    Is the ac***ulator plug stamped steel, or cast aluminum? they changed to steel around 1977ish, I recall.

    (the TH400 has a tag with the numbers, the 350 does not)

    also in your pic that has the shift lever, there's a little casting circle with a hex sticking out of it, clean that off, it should have the last two digits of the years cast into it, as well

    Also, they were introduced in 1969 model cars, so you wont' find one from before August 1968.

    Ok; there was a link I found along the way saying "C" signified Cleveland plant, the "x" meaning before that date. Anyway..

    I think this is the partial VIN:

    28L164438

    which translates as

    2=pontiac
    8=19x8 model year
    L=Los Angeles vehicle ***embly plant

    It's a stamped number, right?

    Yes, a stamped number. Where would the hex-stamp be? On shift lever/driver side?

    Ohh ok. What a trip :) will keep diggin when back from chores. Thanks for the help! Maybe the pan was borrowed from a different trans along the way. Or m***-produced?

    If the pan has a factory drain plug, it could be a very early pan.

    There, and encircled in a stamp on tailshaft. Pan doesn't have a drain plug.

    I think you've identified it as far as you can... CFD is the foundry name, I think

    [IMG] Am up at the shop where the motor 'from' is... Scrubbin off a similar if not same 28L64438 number... Upper # may mean from Flint factory on April 9 and whatever CEM means...

    Resurrecting the thread for some help Identifying this ****er. It is a TH350 with the BOP Speedo Sleeve (37 tooth, I think)
    VIN Stamp just above Pan is 35R101873
    I have zero history but guessing it is out of the 70's or 80's based on other factors
