plugs are a little white and its running a little hot...just want it perfect before i deliver it to its new owner. (and it happens to be a 475 mile trip) haha its a stock single barrel carb on a 170 inline ford 6.......the adjustment screw is about two turns out from all the way in. the only problem ive ever had with it was it backfiring a little bit say going up a hill at high speeds on the way back from York PA..and my manifold was glowing hot.........i just wanna make sure its perfect before handing it over. silly that its only 1 screw....but well..im an idiot. -Rob
na, timing is fine, i figured it out, just a little turn and everythign looks good. ill let ya know tonight, have to drive it a good 475 miles to its new HAMB owner. -Rob
LOL yeah Man richen the mix a bit before that feller has some holes in the pistons of his new ride. At the very least choke it up a bit to make it more rich.
yup, just cause there's only one adjustment screw doesn't mean that's the only adjustment you can make! is it a holley 1bbl? if so pull the float bowl and rejet it, it takes standard holley jets found at any decent parts store. i'd make sure everything else is right too, timing etc, i'm running an inline ford 6, and have a wideband o2 sensor, i've run it real lean, and it will fall on it's face before it makes the manifold hot enough to glow.
Remember to get plug readings at cruise rpm and wide open throttle, too. Jetting is a package deal. Just because you get it right at cruise doesn't mean it is safe at WOT. Start ith the top end by running it flat out on an open road for about 15 to 30 seconds. (yes that's a long time at that speed. BE CAREFUL!) Cut the engine off and put it in neutral simultaneously without dropping the rpm, coast to the side and pull a plug. Then you'll see what's really happening. Once that is dialed in, repeat the process at cruise rpm. I bet you are very close. Then set the idle mixture.
