wonder how Harley touring bike shocks would work? they are 12" eye to eye and are air adjustable, never thought of this before and I have a set in the garage Larry
What's the max travel of the shock? Raise the back end and let it fully droop, and add an inch or so. Then compress it as far as you think it's going to compress, and ad an inch or two. Then figure the apprx. weight of the vehicle. Then go online or down to your local parts store (but ONLY if the guy behind the counter has a clue) and call Monroe's tech line, or some other shock company, and give them the info. They'll be able to get you an off-the-shelf shock application. -Brad

Hey Rob, what is the 12" measurement, total open or closed length, or the lenght between the mounts as the car sits? I think you want about 75% of the travel to be on the compression and 25% rebound. I needed a certain length for my bagged 46 pickup, I went to the local parts store and looked through their Monroe catalog. The back had a cross reference listing all the shocks with open and closed lenghts and end type. I found a set on the shelf that came within 1/4 of being exactly what I needed. I have a pair of good shocks that came off my truck you can have if they'll work. I'll check the measurements once I know what you're looking for.
Yeah, their shock catalog should have a reference chart where you can look up different lengths and ends of shocks. I looked up a bunch for hot rodders when I worked at Advance.
Yeah, those paper catalogs have a wealth of info in them. A lot of the 'parts men' now have no idea. I had to argue with the guy at Advance before he just gave me the catalog. It went like this: Me - "Could I look at your Monroe shock catalog?" him 'what are you working on?' "It's an old Hot Rod. I know what length's I need, could I just see the catalog? Please?" 'what year is it?' "It's a 46, but ....." 'our computer doesn't go back that far' etc. etc. ETC. Finally he gave in and handed me the catalog. He was amazed when I found a couple of different number that would work, and had him pull them off the shelf for me when we found the ones that they stocked.
