This is a loaded question but what is an average for a 28-31 nice coupe body?

I have an idea for one and would like to start looking for a decent 28-31 coupe body. I know with the "rat rod" craze everything has gone sky high but just kinda a rough estimate on what I can expect to pay? I just want a bare body preferably......

I just bought a really good 30-31 body for 4,500 and was glad to do it. I have spent half that on rusted pieces of **** and spent more time fixing it than I care to do again. My time is more valueble to me.

Depends on what part of the country they are in ... :)
Around here ... Model A coupes in decent old non restored condition bring 6 or 7 grand ... sedans less ... 4 doors even less ...

The sad thing is that there is not a BIG $$$ market for the stuff you do not use or want ... that is not sheet metal.

At least in the Carolinas ...

I paid $4,800 for a rust free body and frame, that was about a year ago. No idea what one would sell for now.

Hey Root.....I've said before and I'll say it again.....there gonna go high in price in the next few years...
I think 4-6 k you will find a very good body.....with some luck.....maybe 2500-3500 (that would be a good deal and it is quite possible)
Maybe an unfinished lost desired project.

I stumbled upon a 29 roadster complete(stocker)....very decent shape..$3000.......But I p***ed.....I have too many projects as it is.....I figured, deuce rails and all the bits and pieces....I could have a decent runner for 10-12 k

    ...no interior
    just my opionon.

My 29 was an abandoned project. It has rust in the usual Model A places like cowl, quarters, door bottoms. It's missing the deck lid (of course) and is sitting on the stock running gear with a stuck engine. By the time I sell off all the stocker stuff I'll have less than a grand in it. By the time I get a deck lid and patch it up I figure around 2k in the body and frame.

  15. 31' coupe, complete body. No floor was crudely channel, crudely. no deck lid, fender wells and partial subrails.... an extra cabriolet cowl, a decent A frame and all the garnish moldings.

Paid $500 ten years ago.... I'm got in way over my head. But it was all I could afford! Everythings relative.

Sometimes it seems like the stuff is getting rarer and more expensive,
then you see or hear about super great deals all the time as well.
    Many guys are dyin off,
or realizing that they will never finish or start their hoard,

    Because of that,
I think more cars and projects are gonna start appearing.

If you are going to buy on the open market, ebay etc,
then you will get the prices posted though

when you consider the price for a 32 steel body. 5 to 6k does not sound bad for a nice bare body. the prices are not going down.. only up each year.

Its hard to find a nice body that has not been built and doesnt need panels installed.

I old guy here just recently advertised nationwide, selling a 30 coupe COMPLETE with all new babbit, bore, etc with a pickup load of ALL the parts, patch panels, etc to restore the car for $5000. We looked at it and would not pay that much. As pointed out, a runner is only $6 or 7 thousand.
Root, yer in Oklahoma where they GIVE those things away. :)

I Paid 5500, for mine, a year ago, it was "running" with a ****py 305 and after it was torn apart, we only used the body, and frame, I bought it without seeing it, mistake. and...I didnt even get the free t-shirt that said "I got ****ed", but I should have...Theres good deals out there, just remember the build to get it where you want it is the expensive part, both in time and $, finding the correct parts, if your building a trad rod. The split bones, front end, drop axle, the right powertrain, body work (countless hours) and the wood, patch pannels...on and on...but I agree with all the other guys about that these things are going up in price. And all the deuce guys can say "Hey buddy...nice chicken coupe" But I love mine....Good luck.
