Technical Rear Fender Skirts on a Model A Ford (Pictures?)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Scotch Buzzard King, Nov 5, 2019.

  1. A roadster with a duvall windshield would look better than the 5 window body. A 3 window would look better too IMO. And I also agree that a stretched hood would be even better

@Ned Ludd -the first two caught my eye, but that third one reminded me of my dad saying "Get off before she bucks!". Interesting work, thanks for the pictures.

I don't know , I think you need wheel base and "flow" to pull off skirts.

  5. This one is beautiful. The very definition of a custom coach.

What do you think those fenders came off of?

The George DuVall roadster. Not sure but modified 35 Ford is where mine mind starts to work with it. Look it up and maybe there is more info out there.

The skirts look homemade to me...but they work. I'm a fan of that look:D

I’ve started a pre-34 custom project myself , Pre-34 customs are pretty rare, and there really were only a few guys doing model A fords in a custom style. Since builders like Duvall and kurtis were essentially trying to emulate coach builders I found myself looking at the custom cars like Duesenberg, Lebaron coach built Chrysler’s, delayhe packard and so forth . Rear skirts weren’t very common with coach builders , in fact they almost didn’t exist until 1933. I don’t think a full skirt works at all with anything pre-1933 . The Duvall 29 roadster pictured is perfect, and I’d love to see somebody stretch the wheelbase of a model A and go for it. The flat straight frame begs for it. The front fenders though are another story. IMO they look neat skirted similarly to a 33-34 ford

I've had a crackpot idea in my head for a long time of a custom A-400 or B-400, full fendered, skirts, sombreros and wide whites, chopped with a padded carson top. Probably would have to have solid hood sides and maybe close up the back of the front fender opening, similar to the roadster above, but more factory looking like a '34. Swap the rear body panel with one from a vicky so it flows down better, maybe even a '36 spare tire on the back leaned down a bit. '41 Ford bumpers. You get the idea.
