Hi all, Redneck Smooth, a friend from the Elky Club named Cole and I invaded this boneyard in Southern Ohio yesterday. My camera battery died so I didn'g get pics from about half the yard. To save ryan some bandwidth I saved and posted the pics here: http://www.glennsplace.com/junk_yard1.htm Enjoy!!
the 6th picture from the bottom..... what kind of car is that? I dig the tail lights but i am not sure what it is. Thanks in advance
I bought that dash pictured with the guages and another with a radio for $30 each. Prices are real good. $2 for most trim strips. Glenn
That dash was only $30? Damn, that sounds like a good deal. I have more posts from an even bigger yard we hit later in the day, I'll try to get em up tonight, my home PC is screwed up pretty good though...
Xenia, OH. It's the first Ohio junkyard I've been to that actually keeps the old stuff and it was something else. I don't wanna give away too much, but if I wanted to build a 394 Olds powered vehicle, I might check this yard for motors and trannies, if you know what I mean. In other news, can anyone identify this dash we pulled? http://www.glennsplace.com/DSC04239.JPG It came from this car... http://www.glennsplace.com/DSC04230.JPG http://www.glennsplace.com/DSC04229.JPG Obviously, with the strong art deco influences, it's late-30s/early-40s and I think we decided it was a Chrysler product, but I don't know from there and am having trouble finding pics of those parts on the web. Anyone?
The car your dash came from is a 46-48 Nash. Can't pinpoint the year since so much of the trim is missing. The taillights in the 6th to last pic are from a '48 Stude, I had a set on a roadster project a couple years ago and I'd like to find another set. Great pics, thanks for sharing.
Dang, fellas! That's awesome. All the yards I find think that an 90 Trecel is old....... Good find... Do living guys tell their secrects?
What a jumbled up mess of cars, bet you guy,s had fun. No snakes in Ohio then ?( he,s wearing shorts) How did that orange 60s Austin/Morris 4door get in there ? 2nd & 3rd pic from the bottom.
That was me in shorts, we have snakes, but I've backpacked enough to know where they're gonna be depending on the temperature and position of the sun and this yard was pretty busy with the constant rumble of the crushers sending Hyundais back to Korea - I didn't see any snakes. I don't know anything about the Austin/Morris, but there were a lot of cars in there I'd take on as projects if I were better at this ****...
Those taillights are definetaly late 40's bulletnose Stude. And the car you got the dash out of I think is a '42 Nash. There use to be an old wrecking yard in Frazeysburg,Ohio with tons of old iron, especially Falcons. It was owned by an old dude named Daniel Minnich. He sold me the ENTIRE front clip for a 61 Ford Galaxie several years ago for 75 bucks.I heard a while back that he died, but im not sure this is true.Damn shame if it is true as Daniel was a great guy.
If anyone wants to go I should be going there next saturday and I could go to another yard that has old stuff but they are not as cheap. Jeff
Here's another yard I hit later in the day... http://s79.photobucket.com/albums/j152/annralston/Starks/
from the dash i would say graham about 39 , nash had stagecoach doors in the late 30's graham didn't . roger
I can't get enough of these junkyard pics! I have to admit, I'm green with envy One of the many things that amazes me is that some of those cars still have gl*** that looks solid! and they're not completely rusted out after all those Ohio winters! Must be the trees growing out of 'em that keeps the snow off Man if there's something like that in the LA area I've never heard of it...we have Memory Lane, but anything there will cost ya.
I think you might be confused about the source of our rust. It's not the snow, it's the damn salt they spread on our roads. For about a week after it snows, a daily-driven Ohio vehicle has a visible, slightly opaque layer of salt on the lower 1/2 to 1/3 of the body. That's what eats the metal...
Yes I've been to Frazeysburg. Yes his name was Dan Minnich. And yes he has died. I was there just last fall and spoke with his son. They tried to have an auction of the yard and it wasn't very successful. Plenty of stainless and gl*** still there but all sheet metal is pretty much junk. Dan was an awesome guy I too got great deals from him. Most of the pics here---> http://community.webshots.com/album/363814486cjHWrP are from his yard. Later,Bill
I'll take BOTH those 57' Rambler more doors. Dying to build one with a Jeep 4.0 liter and all wheel drive. Note; 1957 Rambler Rebel hardtop had a 255 hp 327 v-8 only 1500 were built. Supposedly faster than a 57' Corvette JT
Reminds me of the Graham too, but I can't picture the Graham 4dr - the 2drs I have seen were hardtopped, like the 39-40 Mercs.
