Couple big milestones this afternoon.... Installed the refurbished crankcase tube, and pushrod covers.
This was the 41 Plymouth I had, also the 230 I was building.......sold both like a dope................still got the 40 Dodge tho'...........andyd
The business coupes had the flat rear window, the club coupes had curved glass. I’ve always wanted to swap the rear window on mine for a two Piece or curved unit.
Here’s a few pics of my 48 Plymouth business coupe. Just a few Kustom touches. Bumpers, rounded door corners and lowered. I’m on the fence as far as molding the fenders, on one hand I really like the stainless welting these cars had and on the other hand the body shape is perfect for molding the fenders.
Not being a nitpicker but the short roof coupe like my 1941 Plymouth used that body shell from 1940 to 1948, with the 1940 & 1941 cars also being available with the ASC or Auxillary Seat Coupe option which was small folding seat bases behind the split bench front seat and a lift up rear seat back that the small seat bases folded up behind leaving a large carry space.............in 1942 the Plymouth Club Coupe with a full size non folding rear seat was introduced, this model had a longer roof and rear side windows and continued this body style till 1948.....the original short roof coupe body shell continued till 1948 as the Business Coupe and was only available from 1942 with the split bench front seat, if you wanted to carry more passengers you got the long roofed Club coupe...........Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler introduced their 3 window Business Coupes in 1941 using the same doors that their longer roofed 5 window Club Coupes used, both body shells being used till 1948........andyd
Scotty........I too would like to know how you made the bumpers, they are a very neat distinctive custom touch.........andyd
Heat and beat! The middle 5-6” is actually two pieces cut at a bevel then welded together then to the curved outer pieces. I think I have pics on my laptop at home I’ll look tomorrow. Yes those are 49 Plymouth bumpers. Between the front and rear it took part of a third one.
Looking good, Ryan! I'm on the lookout for parts for ya! Maybe PM me with a list of things you need...
Love the car and the work you’ve done to it. You dont see many of these Chryslers around. Im building a 40 Desoto , Tim Kingsbury and George Asch out of Pennsylvania sell a triple intake for the 25”if interested.
My buddy picked up my intake! Hopefully get it this weekend. He sent me this picture, I think he took it with a potato. Can’t wait to get it cleaned up and installed.
Always liked the bumper section , shortened bracket theme.. Goes way back to the fifties....gonna do it on my 49 soon
You might be surprised at how well it's going to run, I had a friend in the 50's with a 1938 Chrysler 4 Dr Imperial Sedan, it went 80 mph at the San Fernando drags in stock form, you could do the same afer your mods are finished. These are also really good for sneaking friends into the drive-in movies with all that trunk space.
Sometime in its life, I suppose 50s or 60s someone cut the heat risers off of the intake. I cleaned it up and took it all off. Ran it through the blast cabinet, cleaned and trued up the flanges, threw on some high heat primer, and finished it with some cast blast paint. Boy I can’t wait to run this thing.
It appears to be a stock mopar dual carb intake. What is it out of? I always thought the stock duals looked like this Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
From what I've heard This intake was a mopar unit used for big trucks. I have the intake part but no exhaust manifolds.
