In the '50s some GM power steering pumps were mounted on the back of the generator and driven by a tang on the end of the armature. That kinda looks like one.

  4. 2X, this is different then the regular Chevy type as that had the reservoir mounted on the back. This could be an Oldsmobile or Cadillac..

pretty sure this has nothing to do with generator mounted power steering pumps! the generator drive ones use a splined shaft, and they all have a reservoir, etc.

GMC.....almost sounds like a truck or diesel part?

Just read online that GMC made RV's in the 70's and they had a hydraulic wiper system. Just wondering what you guys thought about that

I have no parts books to reference, and absolutely no actual clue, but if I were to take a stab in the dark, I'd say MAYBE a governor for an air compressor for air brakes... probably not though. [emoji848]

    I dug out the '39 - '58 100 thru 470 series GMC parts book, and the number isn't listed. It's a part for a larger series truck than a 2 ton ...

  9. Nope, here is the one on my '75 Palm Beach:

    Rotary vane pump? fuel? vacuum?

  11. I'm leaning toward a fuel transfer pump made for military or constuction equipment.

Is that your hydraulic pump? What does your windshield wiper transmission look like on your Palm Beach? Thanks

Maybe the G.M.C. does not even mean General Motors Corp. Could be something else entirely.

So...you didn't take it apart yet, to see what's inside? I would have done that, first.

    Some kind of valve?
What happens when air pressure is applied to one of the threaded holes where the cardboard thread protectors are and the shaft is rotated?

We seem to not have any pictures of the ends of the long round thing in the middle. I wonder if there's a valve and spring inside it? and a snap ring and plug in one end?

It sure looks like an air pressure governor of some type, eh?

Looks like some sort of governor to me. The part that rotates on the inside, are there sliding valves and spring inside of it?

The rounded head screw looks like it may be for a pressure relief ball and spring arrangement and the flat top screw is meant to be wired in position.
Like a pulse air or fuel injection valve?
