Today started like every other sunday for me, get up, get coffee go work on car..
Except, i never got to work on the car..
I was on my way out to head to the shop when my cell phone rang and on the other end is Dat Dirty Rat telling me "DUDE, you gotta get over here, there's a 57 pontiac two door hard top for sale etc..."
By the sound in his voice i knew this was had to be something...

So, i quickly head over to meet him, about 5 minutes from my house...
When i pulled up, i saw this red and white 57 chieftain 2 dr ht sitting there, ALL original and in damn nice shape, with Dirty 'gaurding' it while another fella was looking it over..
All i'll say about the price was it was RIGHT!

So, i go over and check out the car with him..he had already looked it over and was impressed...thats why i got the call..
    Well, so was i..
So much so that i made a call to a friend of mine to bring me a deposit on the car 'cause obviously being a sunday i had NO axcess to the bank..

Dirty knocked on the door and called the number..nobody's home and the number go's to a answering machine..
I call and leave a couple messages as well, telling them i'm with the car and have a deposit in hand...

Fast forward close to 5 hours and about 25-30 interested people stopping to check the car out for themselves..
We never left! camped right out in front of the guy's house because we knew that if we split we would loose this deal period..
Then one of the guy's who had stopped once before comes back with is girl..and decides to hang out and wait as well..
I did tell him before we had been there for 3 hours already and were without a doubt going to buy the car, but he must have thought i was talking through my ass...

    SO,
Another call went out....Dirty headed home to take care of business with his son and when he came back, he had a good chunk of cash to loan me for the car...and my dad rolled in a few minutes later with the rest...remember, the bank is closed and i can't get my money...
So now, not only have we been there ALL day long, but i now have the full amount IN HAND and even a little extra in case the other guy wants to 'play'....
However, that didn't happen. At one point the guy came ove to me and plain asked " do you care if this car even runs?"
I respond, "it could have a rod hangin out of the block, it;s going home with me tonight"
He smiled and just said "well, i was going to stay here to see what happens, but you guy's were here first and i don't need any bad blood so i'll step back"
That was nice of him, and he saved himself a dentist visit 'cause if he tried to screw me out of this car after us sitting there all damn day AND Dirty being the first on the sceen in the morning, i was going to adjust his teeth with my fist!

So anyway, he split's and we wait....and wait...and wait..we even had my parent's pick us up a couple burgers and ate them right in his front yard:D...until FINALLY the husband show's up..

I say hi to him and ask if the car is his..he says "no, it's my wifes, but she'll be here any second", and sure enough she pulls up..
I tell her i want the car and have the cash right now...
In a scramble the two empty the car, she sign's the registration and we make the deal..
We must have completly cought them off gaurd..i don't think they expected anyone to come and not only buy it the first day it was up for sale, but have the total amount and take it right way..

So, it's here now..347ci hydromatic trans, 10:1 comp. The inside of the heads look REAL clean so i think this was either rebuilt, or the 29XXX on the odometer is REAL milage, either way, someone had put a faily lumpy cam in it..but you'd NEVER know anything was touched by the way it looks.
UNBELIEVABLY SOLID and is basically in great shape!
The chrome is near perfect too..
The original colors of the car are Raven Black body, Sheffield grey top and side spear.. I'm having a hard time figuring out the trim code...

Now, before i post any pics..
I HAVE to say a BIG, no make that HUGE thanks to Dat Dirty Rat..
None of this would have happened if he didn't do what he did..
not the crazy story or the car..
    THANKS MAN!!!!

Sorry for the story, but this was just to damn funny... We sat there all morning in this guy's yard! we thought for sure someone would call the cops on us..it's not like we blend in with everyone else that was looking at the car!Hahaha

    Here's the pics...
The first thing i did was take off the stock caps and throw on some lancers..

    More pics!
I'll probably register it and get it road worthy.. the old owner had it for 18 or so years, but they didn't drive it much..
not sure what the long term plan is.. I guess i'll see how it treats me..
If good, this will be a daily driver from here on out..for a while anyway

Except, i just may repaint it black.. with a flaked gray roof or something..
    Don't know anything yet though..

That car is really clean. Your friends keep big wads of cash on them at all times or what? Come on, tell us what you had to pay for it. If you dont' want everyone to know, would you PM it to me? I'd really like to hear.

  6. Damn... thats nice. If you need any spares for the trim parts, etc. I have a lot of extra pieces tucked away, and mine's a 4-door - 2dr chrome won't go well on it.

Naa, nobody has alot of cash on them...but sometime's thing's work out and your able to get what you need..
As far as what i paid, i'd rather not. It was a fair price, but slightly lower than it should have been. I'd like to just leave it at that.

Nice car, and a great story! Not every day you find something like that. I'm impressed that you knew it was a good deal and just stepped up and paid the lady, that's class. Having the family and friends to bankroll it..priceless.:)

Wow, great story! And an even better car!! The only thing that could make it better is if you did have to take care of the other guy, and it was right after he told you HIS plans for the car!!

Don't even think about painting it!! That car looks GREAT! Maybe flake the roof or something, but I wouldn't touch that car with black paint!! I wish I knew what you paid! Does it start-up and run just fine?

    Nice car, amusing story.

Camping out in his yard all day? Add a 'time-out' doll and some bad 50s music and it sounds like most of the lameass car shows around here.

    Congrats.

Wow, Tony - what more can I say. Well, actually, I can't as I'm speechless. The Pontiac is PERFECT and will be more so when you do whatever it is you are planning to do to make it your own car.

And, friends like Tom are more than priceless, they are a gift from, well wherever best friends come from. Treasure them, my friend. Again, WOW!!!

Thanks John...it means alot but i just have a deep deep rooted passion for these things and its sooo much easier to spend other peoples money...lolol..I love the hunt in this hobby,,,,thats what keeps me going...I love finding stuff and being able to help/give where i can....a reason why none of my sh!t is done yet i guess....But thats me and what i like to do...
Seriously tho, my 3 yr old son Tanner spotted the car and pointed it out but once i saw the price on the window i got the shakes like a crackhead and just went into convulsions hoping to scare the others away.....It was either Tony was going to end up with another car or i was going to have to find a way to repay him...lolol...It was a phone call from another individual who has a 'priceless' gem herself sitting in her garage that called me during my 'sit in' who told me she finally found the paperwork on what i've been waiting for so it was a blessing in disguise for all parties involved i guess.....

Back to this car,,,it is truly amazing and just flat out sick!....Its super solid and just so damn clean....But once the guy started it and it begun to rap threw the tailpipe,,,i couldnt help but to grab my dick like flavor flav and mentally scream 'yyyeeeeaaaahhh boooy!'...But i was all 'rockabilly' out for the day just without the case of Pabst....lol...I wonder if that dudes neighbors told him yet that we had a picnic on his front lawn...lolol...As for that other kid he knew he didnt stand a chance....esp once he found out his girl was my ex.....there is no doubt that dude is hating 'us' in a major way....lolol....

Dont f@ck with the car holmes,,,enjoy it...You got way to many other things going on.....I'm glad things worked out the way they did and the saying is true...'Good things come to he who waits!'.

    Dirty

P.S. Can you please post up some pics of the A-Bone for me when you get a minute..Thanks holmes!

Yeah, i forgot that the other dudes girl was Dirty's ex!! PRICELESS!!!!
I really wonder how he had to feel, knowing he wasn't gonna get the car, and one of the guy's who was there first had his girl! Who looked pretty damn good to boot..:D:D

Painting the car would be something that would happen much later in time if i decide to keep it for a long time. All that will happen now is making sure it's a real reliable ride and go over the mechanicals.
I will probably repaint the roof though as it does have bare metal in a few spots....

The car runs GREAT, and seems to drive just as good. It stops and shifts real nice.. The fella who owned it did a lot of work to the front end and some other stuff to it as well and it passed a NYS inspection last month..
This is a car that can be plated insured and driven as is with little elbow grease..
I would like to lower it a touch though :)..

Like i said, the price was right thats all that matters.

    Thanks fella's, and THANKS Dirty!
I'll hook you up with the A bone pics..
