doing my sedan in the Hot Rod flatz stuff...looks like a good deal and doesnt look like shit, my body doenst look that good to do gloss, so i was going to do it in blood red. how much do I need to spray the inside and out of my sedan? just the body and grill shell. Also, whats a good primer for this stuff and how much should I get? -Rob
we bought the hot rod flatz in blue for catmans 57 gasser and did it all with three good coats and it covers great, it is actually omni acrylic enamel , sprays great and dries fast.. super good finish not too flat and sure not glossy. get a couple of quarts of good primer for it and you will be set. Id use a sealer for bare metal if that is what you are spraying over instead of a primer if it wont need to be sanded first? good luck
let us know how it works out with the custom flatz. 2 gallons seams like alot to me ask them when you order it how much you will need.
ill let you know, i problably wont spray it myself, but just working on buying what i need to finish the car before i blow it on something else. im probably going to order everything from autobodydepot.....the primer, would be going over existing paint/primer. so not sure what to use and how much.
Hey Rob, What's the reduction on that " Hot Rod Flatz"? even at 25-30% a gallon is alot of material if you're shoottin it from an HVLP gun. Ya may want to price a cheap enamel with a flattener in it, over the price of that . After ya through in shipping costs that product may not be all that great of a deal. As for the primer, I'd go with their product line, if you're goin the HRF route, at least it should be compatible! Swankey Devils C.C.
I just had mine sprayed with Hot Rod Flatz blood red. Used 1 gallon. Heres a couple of pics so you can see how it looks.
You can stop down at Autoweld in New Brunswick and buy a gallon of the same paint, and a pint of flattening agent, and mix it yourself. The flattener has instructions, in fact, I think the Flatz guys say they mix for 30%. You can also browse the color chips and get exactly what you want without guessing from internet pics. If you mix yourself, you can test spray a few panels with different levels of flattener.
then i can hit your place up and spray it right? haha. should i get it in a good primer before i start doing the body filler work?
POR is good for rusty metal, but it's something like $100 a gallon...I'm going to do the inside of my A coupe that treatment, inside and underneath the body as well. You ahve to coat it with a top coat to prevent UV discoloration I was told. Not familiar with Hot Rod Flatz... I'd like some info about that. I took a quart of gloss Tractor Supply Company enamel, a soy bean type you can catalyze, and mixed it with 5 quarts of flat black paint from the same place. Nice sheen, looks like black primer and that's the effect I wanted.
If you want semi gloss look and a good value try the john deere blitz black it pretty tough stuff and a gallon with hardner and reducer is $75.00 ! A gallon will be more than enought for a fenderless A.
im not looking for a blitz black type paint at all, and loking for red actually...not looking for the "primer" look really. i think the hot rod flatz has some UV protectant in it.
haha shit, I'd love to trade some pinstripes for helping out, but it's a bad time. I have a domestic situation that will be keeping the garage quiet for a few weeks.
