I'm thinking of converting my 57 chevy truck from the old hydramatic to a turbo 350 or 400. Would the bellhousing mount kits that are sold for the cars work in the trucks?
Only think I could think of would be to find out if the car,and truck share the same bellhousing rubber mounts. If they do you should be fine.
I would think adding a trans crossmember at the back end of the trans would be a lot better for the turbo 350 or 400. They would be a lot of weight on an aluminum case hanging that far behind the bellhousing area. Gene
The trucks are quite different from the cars. Did you look under your truck, and then look at the pics in the catalog of the TH350 mounts? Might be a good idea to go to side mounts on the engine (if it has bolt holes for them) and rear transmission mount.
The 265 V8 in the truck has no provisions for side mounts. If I can't figure out a rear mount this might not be feasible. I think just front mounts and a rear crossmember would be hard on the trans.
yeah, it also will let the engine wiggle around a lot. You might be able to modify the car center mounts, to work on a truck. It might take some ingenuity, and fabricating skills.
If the truck Hydra-Matic is complete, it may be worth some money to the old time G***er/Stocker guys. You may even want to consider having it rebuilt and using it At least look into the Hydro group here. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
If you go with the later trans I would use the Danchuk style mid mount adapters and p***enger car rubber mounts. You will have to fabricate a couple angle brackets to attach them to the frame pads. I would also add a rear crossmember to support the rear. A bolt in rear crossmember should be available from aftermarket suppliers. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
