HELP: Need gear made

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Beep, Jun 25, 2006.

  1. Anyone know of a good machine shop that can make me a hard bronze distributor gear for something less that my left one? :D I need one for my 430 MEL.

  2. I've heard cutting a gear referred to as 'hobbing' a gear. Maybe google that term...

I'll ask a buddy of mine here in Seattle area who has a machine shop if he knows anyone.

Check Boston Gear to see if there's a "stock" gear you could use. To get a helical spur gear hobbed will cost LOTS of bread.

Had some extra ware going on ,in a 455 pon years ago,and found that drilling a small hole at the angle that was to gear in oil galley, let a small stream keep dip gear good.
Don't know if it would work for you.but somthen like may.

I ***ume this is to use with a steel roller cam...
Talk with a shop that does anti-friction and heat coatings for expensive race engines. There may be a suitable surface treatment to allow this use with a normal gear. Chevy used a steel gear with some sort of moly surface treatment on roller cam Corvettes in the eighties.
