Well yesterday was a big day for me and my sedan. With the help of Mike and the girls at Hells Customs I was able to get the roof lowered just a bit. This was my first chop job although definatley not my last. Took 8 inches out of it and now i think it looks just right. Here are some photos, still need to get to s***chin it all together though.
that has to be the most rusted gas tank I have ever seen. huge chop, just enough to get the mail thru the back window...
how many inches of viewing space do you have in the center of your windshield? that's a pretty radical chop, but i definitley like it! as long as the portioning is correct, thats gonna be one mean tudor.
damn...that's one hell of a chop... Did you reenforce the body at all? i dig it.......(now what about that cowl)
haha dont worry ill get to all them rusted through spots soon. no i didnt reinforce it at all it still has the floor crossmembers in it and since the posts are straight there was little fitting that had to be done. a straight peice of 1x1 was clamped across the seam in the posts when i got the posts tacked to keep them from bowing in and out
Well, at least you can wash the top without having to stand on the running boards or even bend over much. That is a radical chop for sure. Me, I'm too old in the joints to squinch into most of the chopped top rods I have seen. I like them, but I also like a bit more room for my old body. I think I'd be too scared to chop one and not use any bracing to support it. I didn't see any in the pics you shot. Keep the pics coming. I am interested in the door alignment and what the windows on the doors will look like when done. Enjoy, Huey
Wicked chop! Now all you need is a deep channel . . . . Keep updating on the progress of the car. RRR
Can you say ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! Bad ***!! Since that cowl is so rotted through you probally dont want it any more so let me give you my adress and Ill pay shipping!!
Nice job, I'm getting ready to do the same thing to my 30 Tudor. I started out thinking 4.5-5", now I'm up to 6.5" chop. Now after seeing your pics.......
I was wanting to know the same thing. Getting ready to chop mine. Did you reenforce the body at all?
ive come to the conclusion that visibility is over rated...just drive it like a charging bull and everyone will surely get out the way
no it still had the floor crossmembers in it and being straight post it didnt need to be stretched or anything like that, it is real straight although had to pie cut the top of the back on the sides to get the curvature to match. took measurements across the door opening for referance. Its probably straighter now than it was when it came out of the factory. ill probably get around to the doors this weekend and put some pics of them up
M***ive chop! Looks *****in. With a channel, you'll need a sturdy helmet and set of goggles! Looking forward to seeing more pics!
we recently just did mine...i took 7 inches out, those verticle lines in the rear.....are a ***** to line up. i cant imagine the ammount of effort in another type of chop, like a shoebox or merc... not bracing the body scares me..we added about 10 braces...but looks like it worked out (probably helped the rear verticle body lineup!)
You can get those panel clamps at Eastwood or Harbor Freight. I have both and they are basically the same save for the cost. I think I paid $5 for a bag of 5 at HF and $29 for 4 at Eastwood.
