No it works really well. Thermal paste, whether automotive dielectric grease or the bespoke boutique versions aren't really designed to transfer heat as such, what it does is fill in any clearance or gaps. It's actually the air space between the components that makes for a great heat insulator. Scuffing the surfaces too before applying it helps quite a bit.
I came across this same picture the other day and it was very helpful. I thought this page in general was very helpful in diagnosing my problem. Maybe it'll help others too. https://chevythunder.com/hei_troubleshooting_page_2_coil_.htm
with all the talk about offshore parts lately many years ago(early 80s)trying to eliminate a miss in race engine despite having several spare modules.I said to hell with it and bought a genuine GM it worked miss was a spark plug( CHAMPIAN) that did not spark at high RPM.back to the module imagine my surprise when peeling off the hologram and finding a made in tiawan label.even back then a lot of things were made offshore.does not answer the question just putting it out there with all the brand name part talk.
I have recently purchased two modules from NAPA. Both are the old four wire type. Numbers are TP45 TP45SB Both are marked "made in the USA" Phil
Try this if it's within your budget. It solved all my ignition issues: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/msd-83647/
