I just got a 48 fleetline aerosedan the door gaps look great and the doors shut sweet but the bottom of the doors rub on the door sill / rocker in the front. ?? Is this normal with these cars??
Hello I also have a 1947 fleetline aerosedan. Mine don't rub has somebody maybe put new rockers in. We need pictures.
Maybe rocker is the wrong term finder extention?? The passengers side is worse than the drivers side. The finder parts line up together good but there is no gap under the door it doesn't look correct to me but idk.
Holding a straight edge to the photo makes me think the doors got new corners. Maybe they were off the car at that time and gaps were not checked. Bob
Do the finder extentionso on the door adjust up and down there is a small gap at the top one passengers side but not the drivers. The body shop that painted it probably didn't take the time to get everything lined up good.
Looks to me like fender extensions not adjusted correctly. I have a 48 coupe, that had the same problem. The lower rocker front piece was adjustable, it did have slots for chrome. Look under rocker, directly under fender extensions and see if there are bolts that can be adjusted. Pass fender extension though needs to come up in front. A lot of these cars had rocker pieces that were damaged by bumping curbs, etc.
The door extension are called pontoons don't ask me why. They are bolted to the door from the inside there might be some play if you loosen the bolts but that could turn into Pandora's Box if they were painted on the car. Can we get a shot of the hole car please.
I need to do some adjustments on the hood also it looks like it needs to go up and seems like it's wider than the finders in the back. Looks ok closed but a little funky getting it done.
Be careful when you adjust those as you could screw up your clearance at the top where they slip in under the front fenders. If they grab/rub there, you will end up with a beautiful and very noticable scratch. I would look at adjusting the edge of the "running board" where it is rubbing now, it will be a whole lot less pain than goofing around with the extensions.
see the lower portion below black area on door, at rocker. there are two bolts one front and rear that hold that rocker. Mine still has the holes for the stainless trim. That is why I said to look under bottom of rocker and see if there are visible bolt heads. Mine was original and had flat head screw that went through holes like painted part of rocker. When some guys clean these up they weld them shut and some times there is no way to adjust other than 2x6 block and BFH. You can see the five holes on door in black spot. That is where the fender extensions bolt on. If your car has proper filler panels you cant access without removing those inner panels. I could not get them out or off so off came the fenders.
