A lot of real life truth in your story Spooky.
My older Brother Ralph developed Picks Disease which is an early form of Dementia that affects the right front temporal lobe of the brain. Ralph was in his early 60's and eventually had to go into a nursing home. Our best communication was when I would bring old photos of us and Family from the 50's and 60's. He could name names, easily identify Grandmas beloved Chevy Belairs and best of all he always had a smile. For some reason many people with Dementia can be "forever young" as they do retain some long term memory while their short term memory can be gone in a matter of hours or even sometimes minutes. Ralph and I were the youngest of 4 Siblings. We spent our lives as best friends, enjoyed building cars together and shared many great memories as adults with our Families.
It will always hurt how much this disease took from my Brother and our Families. Despite the hardship, I will always know we did our best to provide Ralph with love and support. I will always cherish the many visits I shared with him and the times we relived our younger years with the old Family pictures. They will always not only remind me of our Family history but also those final special times I got to spend with my Brother before he left us.

I lost my Uncle and father in law to Alzheimer's/dementia. Its a terrible disease. My thoughts are with anyone who has a loved one so afflicted.

Jim, I can relate to what you are going through. Try showing her old Family photos like I mentioned earlier in my post. If she responds to them in any way like my Brother did, you will be pleasantly surprised. It is worth a try.

"Years as a child crawl but as you age, a work week, month or year, just become an endless loop and a blur."

The above line from Spooky's story has a mathematical basis. When you are young, let's say 5 years old, one year is 20% of your entire life to date so it seems like a large chunk of time. When you are 50 years old, that same year represents only 2% of your life, so they seem to go by so much faster.

Great story @Spooky , looking forward to more of them.
