  3. I think that was at autorama in Detroit this year. I believe it was a restoration of an old drag car that ran in the Detroit or Midwest area. I'm sure someone here most know more about it!

    Search the web for "Ramchargers"

I don't know details, but I know thats who raced it, if thats the original anyway. I've never seen a color picture of it.

Called "The High and Mighty". Was an engineering exercise done by a group of Chrysler engineers exploring new engineering applications to drag racing. It ran in an Altered cl*** and the guys that ran it were the neucleus of what became the Ramchargers.

  7. I remember a car with headers like that, but not certain if it had the extreme induction setup on it & if it wasn't a different bodied deal as well.
Looks like im wrong again,,,,typical me.

The High and the Mighty referred to as if it "Looks like a pile of **** thrown together" by someone with a Drag Racing handle !!???!!!- son you had better read up on your sports history before trashing it. These guys were one of the FIRST real innovators. They were Chrysler Engineers who lived and breathered drag racing. At first the factory "frowned" on their efforts - but after they started to consistently kick *** on the drag strip the factory decided it would be good PR to back them. These guys were INNOVATORS!!! They MOLDED a huge part of what we've come to take for granted in "nostalgia" drag racing.

You ought to beg the racing gods for forgiveness!!!!!!!!! Lest your tires be round only 3/4 of the way!!!!!!!

    LOL.

It is funky looking. But in a good way. I love that car and the story of the Ramchargers as a whole. I just don't know enough details to start spouting facts.

I seen it run at the Nationals in 60, thats one car you don't forget once you seen it run. Glad they made a clone, thats a piece of drag racing history.

  17. I remember seeing that car in a mag when I was like 9-10 years old. Even then I thought WTF?? I had to know more about it, since then I have been a fan of the Ramchargers.
HemiRambler, I think their innovations back then are just as important to todays drag racing as to nostalgia racing.
I would put money on drag racing not being as advanced today if it were not for those guys!
    Doc.

PS, No offense intended just an adjunct to your comment.

DocWatson, No offense taken - I think you're absolutely right. I stand happily corrected. Those guys were perfect examples of thinking out of the box!

I agree!!! That was basically the first use of a tunnel ram intake. That car was way ahead of it's time.

Here is a website about the car:

Hey, sometimes we pull the trigger before we think. We all do that. Gotta admit that car looks pretty weird.

FuelRoadster is no kid and has a long pedigree in drag racing. Many people refer to him as Mr NitroHelpful. I call him my friend.

  25. I think its a copy of the car the ram charger team built.
The original was a rolling testbed for new performance ideas for the chrysler corp.

Yeah, but it was a FAST thrown together pile of **** in '59 and '60. :D

lol, I bet you wish you could retract that comment...

If Sam comes out of his hole to slap you around a little, you must really be doing something. :)

  27. Make you a deal send me a pair of Enderle barn doors and I'll forgive you.

Actually it was a pretty odd lookin' duck and anyone who doesn't agree is being dishonest. but back then most race cars didn't have much finess, looks were secondary it was all about going fast. Hmmm I know a HAMBer or two that still share that at***ude.

  28. The original scoop and ram intake is the only part of "The High and Mighty" to exist today. The rest of the first car is gone, the original builders seem pretty sure of that.

I'd like to have seen and heard that car run.

Chili, Ain't that the damn truth!!!! Of course I'm guilty too - more than once - alot more.

The "other" problem is that sometimes we don't always "get" a person's intention's or meaning or reasoning - the "coldness" of the written word I suppose.

I personally am NOT here to "bash" anyone period! It bothered me to think FuelRoadster may have taken my comments that way.

We all get in ruts and sometimes a good humored "jab" serves to help us out. I truely hope FuelRoadster gets out of his rut soon!!!!!

Chili you are quite lucky to call FuelRoadster a friend - any of us would be. Real friends are priceless.
