    Hello,

In the early days of drag racing during the late 50s and the first few years of the 1960s, there were plenty of sports cars racing in their classes at all of the local So Cal dragstrips. Some were consistent winners when the cars were even in horsepower, it went down to the driver’s ability to get off the start line first and hang on for the win. Usually, the Corvettes were stock and after popping off the hubcaps, it was racing all afternoon until a win was had at the end of the eliminations.

As the years progressed, there were modifications done to those stock Corvettes to make them go faster. Sometimes, a supercharger was added, other times, just the motor was taken out and put in another different sports car. So the competition was no longer stock, but a modified sports car class.

Bones Balogh was one of the best drivers around, with his quick reactions and mechanical skills, he was hard to beat in any class, Gas Coupes/Sedans or Sports Cars. He was one of the “feared” drivers if his cars rolled up into the next lane. Before the noted Tahitian Red Corvette of the Balogh/Mazmanian Team, there was his personal 1958 Purple Corvette that was the starting ground for his trophy winnings.

Again, the purple color pops into view with some historic significance in drag racing. This 1958 Corvette was stylish and won a lot of trophies in its class. In trying to keep up with the Christmas Holiday theme, red was selected to see what the radical look of the 58 Corvette would be with a different color.
