Hot Rods 15" steel wheels...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rustydusty, Dec 11, 2019.

  1. Hi guys, looking for a set 15" steel wheels with a 5×4 3/4" bolt pattern. I understand that these were available right up through the '80s on full size Chevys. The aftermarket companies want $100+ each for these. I'm hoping to score a set of used for a quarter of that... My question is, what should I ask for. Usually they want you to be model specific.
    Thanks, Dusty

Just to be clear, when searching, the year(s) need to be specific because some "full size" Chevys used the 5 on 5" bolt pattern.

    The standard Caprice 77 through 1990 was a 5x4 3/4'. A Caprice with the Police package (9C1) was 5 on 5".

All Chevy B-Bodies(bubbles as some call them) from 91 - 96 were 5 on 5. The boxy B-Bodies up through 90 were 5 on 4.75, so look for a Caprice, Caddy Brougham, Pontiacs and Olds as well. I think those were the Parisienne and Delta 88s, maybe a few other models. You can also look at the G-bodies; Malibu, Cutlass, Monte Carlo, or the X-bodies; Nova, Ventura, Omega.

Impala & Caprice WAGONS are all 5x5. G-bodies and x-bodies were all 14" only.

Buy new. I bought a set of nice looking '70s Malibu wheels, painted them up, got my wide whites mounted & it turned out 2 were bent just enough to cause vibration. Then I had to buy two new wheels, paint them up, & pay to get the tires mounted & balanced again.
Cragars are cheap and they all look the same once you put hubcaps on them.

  8. Good luck. I have been searching local all summer for some but it seems like the most popular car ever built for some reason has the most difficult to find wheels. I thought they would be everywhere for dirt cheap but everything I find is 5 on 5 lately or a Ford pattern.

^^^^^ They are getting harder to find. If there not late model aluminum wreckers (in LA area) do not even bother with them.

  10. Thanks for the info. I am now more prepared to ask for what I need. I do have a new old stock set of 6 lug Chevy pickup wheels I could get adapters for. Just a little uncomfortable about the idea of a 5 lug to 6 lug adapter...

I know S-10 4wd's are 15 inch but have a huge offset much like front wheel drive cars (87 era).

  14. S-10 2wd rears are narrower..Pretty much standard stuff..Probably your best bet here.

  15. Thanks for all the information. I have sent the request to my sister, who is the office manager of a huge junk yard and online used parts wholesaler...

I have 2 15 inch steel wheels that have both the 4 3/4 bolt and the 4 1/2 Ford. I will you have them for 25 bucks each plus the freight.

Different years have different rim widths and back spacing so you have that to deal with. Most of the time wheels off a mid 70's Chevelle or Chevelle size car work pretty well.

I just bought a set at the Louisville Swap Meet, my Merc was converted to Chevy. I currently have rally's which are way to wide. I looked for a while. They are getting harder to find. IDK if they are getting scrapped or what. I'm embarrassed to say what I paid for them. o_O.

Bought four 15x7's from one of the catalog stores for less than $200. brand new. Wheels were made by Allied,
rallye style lookalikes. They're out there.

  21. Don Moyer just put some up for sale, maybe send him a message.
