You guys think this is vague you should see a rule book for land speed racing the only way to get an actual answer is to ask the scta so if there is any question just ask it’s better to know before showing up to race and it becomes an issue for us land speed racers we have to keep a log book and any things that have been approved in writing has to be included in our log book in case someone protests then there is no question of interpretation I personally do not see any issue with a linkage rod to the switch on our land speed car we had to have two shut off switches as we had two electrical systems in it a 12v system and a 16v system we also had two batteries obviously weight was not an issue however weight placement was

  5. That is the mopar performance knock off. It is not the poster I sold at the track. I still have a few originals left. They are easy to spot mine as they have a Belle Dodge dealer plate on the front bumper. I'm at pri and the show is great like always. I haven't posted much lately because I have been working a crazy amount of overtime. The racing bills need to get paid. That doesn't mean alot of work isn't being done. We are in good shape for next season.
Keep a eye out for Nitro Madness magazine next month.

They wanted thirty large. I really want it for the garage and may go back but I had already spent too much that day shopping for others. I was just passing time when I saw this madman Brian famous shot.

I can’t recall what track I was at when I got this 8x10 hero card but it’s been a few years now, that’s for sure. Might have been Rt. 66 Drag Strip in Joliet, IL.

  9. Jim has the real deal. He drove thousands of miles to get one in person. I always signed them in the area of the flames as shown. The originals also had the ram smashing the sfx-1 logo. This logo was the same as seen on the gen 3 t- shirt design. Highlighter graphics logo is also present.
Highlighter graphics made the posters hero cards and a set of four baseball cards.i have thousands of hand out cards left still sealed in plastic and a hundred or so sets of baseball cards left.

Didn't know you knew Don Francis, great guy!

  11. Don lives 10 minutes from me. On occasion he went to the track to help out. Word on the street is he plans on renting the grove this spring to test his out of site funny car.

  12. With my son home for the holidays from the big D we decided to start putting the hemi back together. There is nothing like good family fun time in the shop passing on the knowledge to put together a nitro hemi. 20191231_171744.jpg

  17. Thanks guys. Happy new year. My son has been around this nitro hemi stuff all his life. It sparked a interest in cars early on. He is now a engineer working at Chrysler. When his schedule permits he comes to the track or we do other fun car stuff. The times spent in the shop together are the most fun and priceless. It sucks he lives so far away now. He is in the place he needs to be so we try to make the most of it while we can.

    Brian,
You could fix that and move to Michigan.

  19. Then I would be twice as far from my daughter. She works at mayo hospital in the cicu while in school for her dnp degree. That's a doctorate in nursing. I always have a good time visiting the detroit area. There's alot to see and do. My son and I also worked on the three wheelers. We want to take them on Michigan's trails.

Good luck with NHRA, at Indy one tech guy told me to redo the vent line on my dragster fuel cell, next NHRA track I went to the tech guy had me to put it back the way I had it. It always seemed like they made the rules up as they went, the one guy at Indy was a a$$hole. I even had Travis, NHRA guy that certified my car, go over my car from one end to the other and he said everything was fine, get to Indy and had problem with that same tech guy.

That's so cool Brian, having a son that shares your passion. I've three daughters, my oldest likes to help me everytime I do something to her's, it's OT for the HAMB, but still a RWD V8 Chevy. When I was pulling the engine and transmission out of it, she told me "don't start til I get there".

It's such a cool thing when your kids want to help and get involved and learn stuff. Makes me feel like when I'm gone, my stuff won't just be junk they have to get rid of, it'll have some value to the kids.

  22. I finally had a day off. I took full advantage of it to work on the car. The rear end and gas tank went back in. The crank went back in the block with new bearings. After a talk with the total seal guys at pri the decision was made to use their two piece second rings. The top will stay a dykes. the L shaped dykes works great with a blower under boost. Set at .040 there is alot of blow by on the street. The two piece second ring will stop that keeping the oil clean and stop the oil mist from venting out of the puke tank. The mist blows onto the front of the engine making a mess. Other updates include a stroud trans blanket; new rods and pistons. The heads were freshened with new liners and valves. The steering box was replaced with a freshly rebuilt unit I just finished last week. The old units shaft was pitted. That was tearing up the bushings requiring regular replacement. the shocks are on the way back after being sent out for re valving. The car was rolling to the right allowing the body to contact the tire. The shocks were maxed out on their adjustment. The drive gear on the dual drive was replaced do to wear. Some modifications were made to the water passages in the block to improve flow. The battery is getting changed out to a lithium ion to save 50lbs. I bought a additional piece for it that allows me to check the batteries charge from a ap on my phone. 20200101_143855.jpg 20200101_143726.jpg 20200101_143632.jpg 20200101_143652.jpg Next up is a full inspection on the lenco. It's hard to do all this work while maintaining a very aggressive overtime schedule at work.

  23. I have yet to have a issue going through tech. The car is over built and 100 percent legal. There always is the chance of running across a inspector that has his own opinion that differes from the rule book.

  24. Awesome Brian,

It’s great to have a son that is interested in hot rods.
Torquing the mains on an aluminum Hemi,,,oh yeah !

You probably never have problems from the tech guys because they see that your car is overbuilt,,,,and realize you didn’t cut any corners.
A trained eye doesn’t miss much,,,,,and your car is kind of hard to overlook.

Me and my Brother have been working on our Tri-Z250s and my 7 year olds have TriZingers. We hope to hit some Michigan trails or at least Silver lake this year to relive our youth with them.

Any plans to drill the front axle? May save a few ounces[emoji6]

  26. My father in law bought these in 1985. They were ridden very few hours. He flipped the 200 four stroke and broke a few ribs. That's the reason for the low hours. I inherited them after his passing. They sat in a shed from 1986-2018. We had both running great after about a half hour. The 250 two stroke can do about 75mph as advertised. the pic shows them right after we brought them to my place. 20140518_125316.jpg

In 1981 (first year offered) I bought a brand new atc 250r, a couple of friends already had them and I thought "I can do that"
Let me put it this way, the first trip to the Oregon Dunes was a combination of exhileration and scared shitless.
    Be careful!

  28. I don't heal up as fast as I used to so Im just going to trail ride. The plan is to drive up to a camp grounds unload then ride. Stay the night then ride the next day. I do enough dangerous shit on a regular basis were I don't need to add anything new. These machines especially the 250 are starting to become very collectable and pricey. Guys around here ice race them with screws in the tires. I'm not doing that either. I might ride it down the root river when it freezes over. That's popular with the snowmobile guys. There is a good reason why they were banned from being produced. Safety first.

I remember the first time I rode one, even after being told not to put my foot down for a turn, guess what I did? Yep, put my foot down and promptly ran over it!

Never did ride one much after that, prefer two or four wheels!

I was told you can’t get parts for them anymore from the factories? Based on them being banned? Any truth in that rumor?
