I think everyone from the 60's early 70's has 327 stories/memories. In 68/69 bought a 64 Impala SS 300/327 4 speed, 4:56 gears from someone I knew, he went to a BBC Chevelle. The car had 35K miles and I know he ran the snot out of it regularly. I proceeded to modify, 30/30 solid cam, headers, ****ter shield, various carb setups, street slicks, switched to 4:88 after breaking rear end, broke everything in drive line at least 1X, never hurt motor. I used/abused that motor/car for 2 years street racing and driving like an A$$ as that was my program back then. Finally got into big trouble and at a Judge's recommendation I retired from street racing, matured some( had to)and drove like a normal person in my grandpa car (65 Plymouth sport fury 318, pretty car, slower than slow) I sold the 64 SS to someone I knew and he beat it up for another few years and then I lost track of car. at this time I got into Midget racing and some friends were into modifieds (huge deal in Milwaukee area 50's-60's-70's). They went and bought a SBC HP long block from GM dealer, added Hiborn fuel injection, magneto and magic, a racing engine that ran all summer, enough power for cars and tires at that time (they ran 5/6 nights a week) a engine that won races/championship's, some men I knew at that time actually made money racing back then, I owned and drove(Midgets/Sprints) for 21 years and the best for me was 1X broke even $ after a 1X big sponsor. for many years my sponsor was some TOOL & DIE SHOP and he wasn't nearly as wealthy as people thought, Big Wheel, No spindle. Around 72/73 bought a 65 Impala SS with 327, 4 speed, 4:10 gear, motor problem, (idiot ran it out of oil) rebuilt it, big fun driving it, but didn't trust myself, sold it as I was driving without a license or insurance and was getting close to where I could buy insurance to get my license back. Side note, had 265, 283, 348's, 327's, several 350's, 355's, 377, 383, 406's, a 427 and a 454 so I've covered the Chevy deal pretty well, but reading this thread this AM, that little 327 from back in the day in that 64 SS put a smile on face and got me rambling on from (back in the day) don't ask me what I did last week or 2/3 days ago. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Cool Story. First new car I had was a '66 Chevelle 327 and a Saginaw 4-sp. painted Aztec Bronze. Drove it and raced it (run what you brought events) at the K.C. Kansas Drag Strip for a yr. That car was tons of fun. Gave it back to the dealer and went into the Army.
Ok, it's a new year so I'll break the seal, some have seen this already I'm sure. My 350 hp 327 Nova engine, plus .040, forged 11 to 1 TRW's, balanced, built 30 years ago. Most everything is NOS, including steel sj crank and rods, 67 dated heads, all new GM valves, springs, retainers, keepers, pushrods, "O" stamped rocker arms, "151" L79 camshaft, harmonic balancer, Winters intake, Holley 3245 carb dated 1966, recolored and rebuilt by Holley Custom Shop, even found a complete Delco distributor new in the box. Been destined for my Nova for far too long.
Time for some 327 love. Scan the thread list in the first post and pick one (or six) from the 327 index and show what you got, hell, even if you don't have one, tell us what you would build and what would be a good candidate to put your 327 in. I don't feel so bad for the 318 that's was rebuilt and has been under a bench for 12/13 years. Ya know we gotta tear'em back down someday....

those chrome script covers are just icing on the cake, wish I could run them on my O/T 68 camaro, but need to have the pcv valve and breather hookup holes. But the plain (correct round end) chrome units look just as on the 68
1967 327 in my '58 Vette was built in the mid 70's. Bored .040, 11 to 1, forged internals 1970 LT-1 #186 heads and LT-1 solid lifter cam Edelbrock C3B intake and 650 Holley DP Long tube headers Runs like a scalded dog with 4:11's and a Super T-10
1966 327 in Miss Taboo, Offenhauser 6x2 manifold with homemade adapters to go from 97's to 2GC's, Isky race cam (no clue on specs it was added in 70's but its big), gear drive. CJ rebuilt the motor for Ron right after he sold it and it only had 1000 miles on it when we got the car back so all it needed was to be prettied up again.
that's a sweet looking vette. great pic at the old station in Gladstone. Glad to see a C3B intake on a motor, I just picked one up for my current project.
327 in my grandparents 55 Chevy, Comp cam, 1.6 roller rockers, but the big thing is a fully chromed 3x2 setup.
I may have posted this on a prior 327 thread. Had to replicate an L79 Nova (front sump) windage tray, I'm not positive but I think I started with a Corvette item and modified it, oem trays have long been a "holy grail" part and this was before they were being reproduced. Note the Nova "362" block, easily recognized by the sunken oil filter pad and relocated clutch pivot ball location, these have gotten harder to find and have gotten REALLY expensive.
