we just flew back from indy late last night. other than the turbulance over and near the phoenix area the show was great! tom culbertson, paco, yancy, goose, and the rest of the road rocket boys did an amazing job. for all that attended you know it rained days before and the day after so someone above must of been watching. the pin up contest was awesome but the gal that got second place (flower in her hair) should of won. having lots of friends in the crowd makes a difference. the shifters favorite pick trophy went to tom wise's redish/bronze 55 chevy straight axle g***er. he and choppers member kevin (karl, kole, keith) that owns the 57 ford g***er went down the street late friday night and did some crazy top fuel burn outs. most of the bands were good but my favorite had to be wanda jackson. that ol gal can still sing! the vendors inside, the pool party, the theatre that showed 50's b movies all weekend, the lake behind the hotel......what an awesome set up! other cars that were present i liked was the white 57 plymouth with the chromed out engine and wild interior. i liked the chopped black 36 three window that was there all day friday but no where to be seen saturday. the blue model A truck with the detailed hemi was nice. the straight axle shoe box ford was neat, and the two flathead powered sedans that were parked out back near the gr*** were cool. having the opportunity to dj & mc next to del villareal all weekend was cool. for those that were thinking of going but didn't, make plans to attend next year as i bet this thing is going to grow. the place where this is held is really neat and different! going back to bed for a few hours. just thought i'd report. good meeting a lot of you. p.s. the indianapolis motor speedway museum is a MUST see !
Hey Axle, good to meet you this weekend. The '36 3 window is my Dad's. He had a wake to go to on Saturday. He got there about 4:30 Saturday afternoon. I think of all the times I've seen Wanda thus far, this was by far the best. She rules.
Axle... So Lance (wingnut) tells me you guys checked out the Ol' Mug n' Bun? Did ya try the onion rings?
mug & bun was great. and yes, the onion rings were the best thing there. i put john cougar mellancamp's "jack and dianne" on the juke box and everyone cracked up. i think the film guy in the theatre was getting annoyed with us drunks reciting all of the lines from the movies!
NO WAY! I was the film guy! I was pretty excited someone else actually new about GODSH. It was pretty cool you recognized where some of the opening seens were filmed 50 years ago.
