You (and others) don't need to be informed of this fact but for those that don't know it, many of the show cars of that era had what at the time was called "phony blowers", whether one, two, or six.

  6. DDD, You are absolutely correct about the phony blower thing. I guess you may be referring to my mini-rant about the triple blower deal on that Barris monstrosity. No real attempt to even conceal the fact that it all is bogus, is the thing that chafes me so. At least, for a while there in the 70s-80s, there was a fad for wild street machines to have a 6-71 and injection poking thru the hood with a 4 barrel carb inside, and, the blower belt was hooked up to the crank, spinning the blower, if only spinning the front timing gears in the empty blower. These "street freeks", as they were called, at very minimum, LOOKED like they were working, even with the hood opened. Hiding a carb within the blower case is easily done. In the case of the Garlits Bugcatcher, you can even hide a carb within that injector hat. Phony or not, an attempt to make it appear functional, goes a long way to keep things interesting to me. Some show cars are never run, but at least they LOOK like they could, and that's the point.

  8. 69396696.jpg IMG_3419.JPG Top photo is Ferrari Testa Rossa ( Red Head )SOHC with 6-two throat webers...lower photo here I am finishing up a 250 Same type of engine , SOHC, with 3-twos.

  9. img412.jpg SK-45 - Vic Edelbrock -Bobby Meeks - Don Towle.JPG I posted a snippet of this boat/engine previously, but here's the deal. The first photo shows Vic Jr standing at the Edelbrock dyno pointing to the very healthy, 12 or 13 to 1 compressioned 392 Hemi based powerplant.. In fact this engine held the record for a few years in it's class ( SK ), fed by those eight 94s. The lower photo shows, left to right, Vic Edelbrock, Edelbrock's engine and Dyno man Bobby Meeks, and Edelbrock employee, boat owner, and hero driver Don Towle. I'm not sure I've ever seen an Edelbrock 8 carb Ram-Log manifold in person....perhaps this is a custom one-off fabrication done in house there.

I am fascinated that Ferrari stuck the oil filter upside down on the top of the engine.
Is there a check valve to keep the oil from draining out when the engine is shut off?
How does one change the oil filter without dumping oil all over everything?
The only one that I have seen in person was a 365 GT4 and that filter was upside down in the valley between the cylinder banks; to me a really poor place to put it. At least in the pictures of the 250 the filter is in a slightly better location.

From the size of the lines and the routing of the line into the sump from the filter mount on the 250, is that a bypass type filter as opposed to full flow?

Thanks for the eye candy Loudbang. Except for the AN plumbing, that Studebaker flathead is niiice. Hell, they’re all nice! Even in B&W.

[IMG]I notice two starter motors; could probably use them for passing gear in my Crosley!

  19. Large pop off valve also.

  20. There are a good number of filters designed with a membrane, that functions like a flapper, that allows oil to flow into the input side of the filter, and yet prevents the oil from draining back. It is designed this way, so that oil won't have to prime the filter on every start.
Within a couple of minutes of stopping the engine for an oil change, most of the available oil from the outlet (center tube) will have drained, and there will be a minimum of mess.
Here is an excellent link, with more information that you might care to know about filters.

I use Amsoil filters, and one of the designs for inverted use, is the EaO37.

Thank you for the information. I guess that I am just used to seeing the oil filter on the bottom of an engine.

  22. You are soo lucky! I just made the mistake of buying an O/T for a daily driver, that is fitted with a horizontally mounted filter on the bottom side of the engine.
Just to do a filter change, is just about enough to drive an experienced mechanic nuts.
My son's O/T supercharged truck, has the oil filter mounted upside down at the top of the engine. It has a little catch pad surrounding the base, and changing the oil and filter is a clean and easy project.
A little good engineering goes a long way.

  24. Yeah, she is a cutie isn't she? You'll note the guy in, what I believe is a '36 Ford Cabriolet, behind these kids ,ALSO has his best girl next to him. I'm old enough to remember bench seats, and the thrill of crusin' around sitting next to your sweetie. I see too many guys today crusing with other guys. C'mon guys, get your girlfriend or wife and take them out for an ice cream......you'll be a hero to the guys who are just trying to impress other guys!

Amen Spike, the first thing I did to my '64 Dodge after I got it was replace the Mickey Mouse Nissan bucket seats the previous owner had put in it with a bench. The wife and I will have been married 53 years in January and we still like riding side by side and holding hands when we walk
