I have a set of stock SBC valve covers that I plan to install. I noticed that one side is stright up and down and the other side is slanted. Why? Does it make any difference which way they go?

Are you talking about the bolt pattern? I think early Corvette heads had a staggered pattern. Could they be a miss matched set?

Lots of different stock and after market covers over the years. Show us a picture so we can see what you have.

He's referring to the "intake manifold side" of the valve cover, as compared to the "exhaust manifold side" of the valve cover. Many times, if they get "flipped" around, the rocker arms will rub on the inside. Not all covers are that way.

That's it Butch. Which is the intake side? Stright or sloped?

Straight side goes to the intake.

I put a set of Holley valve covers on my pick up when I changed the heads. The original centerbolt valve covers (which I hate) would not work on the 1970 heads I put on. But the old cast Holley covers I had kicking around for years would, so I used them. A quick spray of Chevy orange and they were perfect for my beater pick up.

I put one on upside down so I would have both the oil fill and the PCV up front where they are easy to reach on a pick up.

"Motor" ..... I've been wanting to make a set that just say "Motor" on them... and wait for the inevitable "but it's not a motor, it's an engine" comments

early chevy had offset bolt holes in valve covers, i think '59 was the change. a lot of gaskets back in the day had four holes for the top bolts.
