My 56 has disc front breaks and a 68 Mustang disc/drum master. I want to add a power booster to it and I'm looking for a recommendation for a booster. Thanks, Paul.
If your MC is 1" or over you need a booster. If you use 7/8" or smaller you may not. My 56 has a 7/8" MC and doesn't need one. If you have a stock 11" brake drums on the rear you good there too. When I changed rears I made sure it had 11" drums. Smaller wheel cylinders also helped mine. Your front calipers also can dictate a power unit. A 65 Mustang had discs without power. Some 4 piston fronts don't and also the hardness of the pads can make a difference too. Cheap soft nonmetallic from parts stores take less pedal too. Pedal ratio is another variation but yours should be OK there. Unless it's something you just want to do, look over your complete system and make sure everything is correct including the proportioning valve.. Good luck.
This matches your master cylinder guys have used both in the past. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...28,brake+&+wheel+hub,power+brake+booster,1884
Thanks JeffB2 That's basically what I was looking for. The master is a 1 in. dia. with a combo valve, and it stops a lot better than it used to, but a little more foot pressure than I like at my age. I should probably look at converting the 9 in. Edsal rear to self adjusting brakes as well. Paul.
That is a good booster, avoid the no-name 7" or 8" ones. I like to be able to get a replacement from a car I can identify. My firewall is a little busy with the clutch master (milled up a common plate to hold both masters) or I would have considered a booster.
