On our olds, I've had to basically climb through the bottom of the engine compartment when our latch 'stuck'...

The only trick I know is to try and remain calm. I wish you luck on this one. Doesn't that hood open "reversed"? maybe if you could unbolt it? Well, best of luck!

It depends on where the cable broke. If it broke under the dash you can use vice grips close to the fire wall and pull the cable round spring like sheath apart and pull the cable with it. If that is not the problem and it broke at the latch try to a slim Jim under the hood and keep bending it until you can get it down to the latch and move it toward the drivers side. IF you can catch the little round br*** cable clamp it will pop open. Gumpa

    Hi,

I went out and looked at my '59 after reading your post and thought "oh man, this is a pickle". Then I hung my head low and went searching for my factory service manual....

    Hope this helps!

YES! There is a easy fix!
I know becasue I found out AFTER i peeled back my hood like a sardine can. Climb under your dash and poke around on the fire wall near the latch mechanism. There is a plug in there (rubberish material) Poke the plug out and you can access the mechanism and release it.

A big thanks to you too....now I know just in case, lol. Otherwise it would have been time for a hood scoop to cover that hole in the hood.
