hello need to replace 2 door hard top p***enger door spring before wife will no longer take a it . so how is the best way to replace topline power window not dealing with wires
Got me confused as well,if you had this you could get the illustration and part number and could fix it: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...lock-engine-manual-and-other-goodies.1005974/
Please forgive our pre-Christmas lack of insensitivity and making fun at your expense, but...Huh? Let's break this down and try to be helpful in this time of "it's better to give than receive." Could d_Seymour be asking two questions? Is he saying "Hello. (I) need to replace (my) 2 door hardtop('s) p***enger door {before spring} (or the) wife will no longer take a (ride in) it. So how is the best way to replace (the top of the line) power window mechanism without dealing with wires?" Or, is he saying "Hello. (I) need to replace (my) 2 door hardtop('s) p***enger door (window mechanism) spring(,) before (or is he really wanting to say 'or') (or the) wife will no longer take a (ride in) it. So how is the best way to replace (the top of the line) power window mechanism without dealing with wires?" Is d_Seymour having a problem with the power window mechanism or electric motor in the p***enger door of his '59 Galaxie 500 hardtop and want to replace one or the other? Does he want to swap the door out but doesn't know how to disconnect the wiring to the power window motor? I just love putting words into peoples' mouths...sorry. Just remember what the PSA said - "Reading IS fundamental."
Yesterday I was gonna ask if English was no longer spoken in Michigan.... glad I'm not the only one. On the other hand English may be Seymour's second language, in which case he may be doing ok learning it, and just needs a bit of help. With all that said, I had no idea our doors had springs to begin with, which got me to thinking maybe he's talking about the spring loaded flip thingy (note proper use of English technical terminology) on hardtops at the top of the door jamb. Not sure what that would have to do with wires though, and have no clue what a topline power window is. Apparently his wife's car. So, if we stay tuned, we'll either find more clues in chapter 2, or find it was a short story with a bad ending.
I saw he had 69 posts, not 1100. Hover over his avatar. However, he is an engineer, and I read some of his past posts/history, and most of what I read was actually written quite well, so not sure what 's going on with this thread. Maybe just on meds
d-Seymour, forgive us for making light of your plight at a time when it's better to give than receive, but sometimes the material is too rich not to use in order to have some light-hearted humor (which is one reason why I love the HAMB). I just tried to insert words into your message, using my "superior intellect," and I think you have two or three issues: 1. Your window won't go down or work, so your wife won't ride in the car with you or look at it (the car), and you need to fix it before spring? Gee, a few of us would consider that a "problem solved" kind of thing if you don't fix it (Again, material too rich not to use). 2. You're trying to figure out if you can replace the winder spring in the window mechanism, or the mechanism itself, without messing with the power window motor and all the wiring? Wiring unplugs, window motor comes out with two nuts removed, and you rebuild or replace the motor. And while the motor's out, unhook the window track rollers, prop up the window or take it out temporarily (easy-peasy with a hardtop door once you remove the window stops), then remove the window mechanism and repair or replace the spring. 3. You're trying to replace the whole door? Unplug the wires for the window motor before pulling the door off. First thing I ask people when answering tech questions in our T-bird club forums is "do you have the shop manual, ***embly manual reprints, or parts books with exploded diagrams?" If you don't, they're readily available from literature and '50s Ford car parts retailers and not that friggin' expensive - you can always sell them with the car or separately when you get rid of the car. Just remember what the PSA said: "Reading IS Fundamental." (Lord I apologize, and bless all the starving pygmie children in Africa. Amen.)

d_seymour...firstly.Merry Christmas! Your response to our attempt at sarcastic humor is appreciated....you could have just told us to f$#k off! I'm having a difficult time following your posts, as I'm sure others are, but what I am seeing is very consistent with some long -term experience I had years ago dealing with someone(my boss) who was in the later recovery stages of a stroke, so I'm gonna guess maybe that's what we're seeing here. Not prying, no response to that requested. Guys: stroke victims in the recovery stages often understand issues in front of them (input), but they have tempoarily lost the brain's link that allows them to communicate their thoughts to others. Not a medical expert by any means, just someone who spent lots of time dealing with a stroke victim.........and I may be totally wrong on Semour, just trying to understand what we're dealing with. I suspect Yutan Flash may have answered your questions. Yes? No? Rich
I'd have to know what a door spring is before I could offer any help. Maybe a picture would show what you need help with?
Good to see ya back Bob, I was starting to worry about you, esp when another '59 guy was asking questions.
