Been lurking around for a couple of years now. Finally picked up a 50 ford. It needs a lot of work and thats part of why I bought it (therapy). Here are a couple of pictures of it. If anyone knows where to get the seat covers, I would really appreciate it. I love them, but they are falling apart.
I dont think this antenna position came stock. What car did it come stock on? I havent found any information on it.
Welcome. And Merry Christmas to you as well. I have a '50 2dr sedan custom. Bought it in '95, built original flathead in '96. After putting over 80k miles on it, I quit driving it about 10 or so years ago. Sold engine and now trying to sell the car. Had lots of fun with it even if I had to build 12 transmissions for it. That's what happens when you get on it with a hopped up flathead. Lol.
Thankyou. I like the location, but mine is leaking really bad. There is a hole where it used to be in the cowel. I tapped the bondo with a body hammer and it fell right out! lol That will get welded u0p along with all the other bad bodywork that has been done on her.
Ha ha! I understand man. I hope to do a little work to the flattie but am looking into the T5 trans swap for it. Ireally want it to be more of a late 50 period build with a couple of touched that will not be seen to make it easier on long trips.
Hudsons too. My father said as a little kid was fascinated by the antenna on his grandfathers (My Great Grandfather) Hudson. It had a big knob on the back side of the antenna that turned it down so it pointed toward the hood for low clearance like a low garage door opening which my Great Grandparents had.
Yeah man, mine will turn down too. I knew they came on certain cars. ine isnt in good shape so I will have to replace it... Thats good to know. Thank you.
Talk about long trips. I live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. I have made 2 trips to Nebraska, 2 trips to Florida, 1 trip to Columbus, Georgia and 1 to Mrytle Beach. These trips were done in my '50 with Hopped up flathead, bias ply tires, 6 volt system and 3 speed overdrive transmission. Trips to Nebraska were in '98 and 2000. Florida in 2000 and 2005. Georgia in 2005 2 weeks after Florida trip. The first trip to Florida was Orlando and drove 820 miles (in 1 day) the day after building the transmission. Mostly trouble free, replaced differential seal and filed points in aftermarket fuel pump on 2nd trip to Nebraska. Trip to Georgia, I replaced voltage regulator at midnight on I-85 and then push started to get it started, btw, I was by myself. Also on that trip, I replaced the aftermarket fuel pump. Except for the pump, which I ordered, I had the other parts with me. And let me tell you, those trips were fun, windows open, Lakes pipes open, '50s music on cassette player. I don't know what could have made it any easier. And, with o/d trans and 390cfm Holly 4v, I managed right at 20 mpg. Long trips are not a problem with old cars if everything is sound. Now having said all that, I was planning on putting a 289 and C4 with 65 Mustang rear in mine. Not to make anything easier, but to have even more fun. Sometimes I think I'll keep it but I really would like to get my '55 Ford Gasser going. If someone comes along and buys the gasser, then I'll keep the '50. Anyway, good luck with yours. They are fun cars.
