Make sure the ground cable is disconnected from the battery.
Remove the big wire from the lower (big) terminal of the solenoid and put the nut back on. Put that big wire on the same terminal with the red battery cable.
Leave the small wire where it is. Make sure everything is tight.
Re-connect the battery slowly and carefully, in case there’s a short you don’t know about. If it connects without a big spark, hook it up and try the starter.

Bakelite is the trade name of the material they used to make solenoid end caps, distributor caps, rotors and stuff out of. It’s a very good insulator, most often brown or black in color. If you look closely, there should be an ‘S’ and on some an ‘R’ embossed on the solenoid end cap. ‘S’ is power in to actuate the solenoid, R is a byp*** wire to provide direct battery voltage to the coil while starting. Your car may not have the R circuit.

You have been given correct info as the normal on the HAMB ask and you shall receive . The 2 heavier wires should be on the same terminal as the red wire is now connected to . If you notice there is a small wire connected to a small terminal behind the incorrect connected heavy wire , that small wire is what gets current from the starter ****on or switch to cause the solenoid to engage the starter . That engine looks pristine , hope it runs as well as it looks for you , great fine and good luck . Be sure you rebuild the brakes and inspect all hoses and lines , replace anything in question . This old Indian has a single style master cylinder , you loose a line or wheel cylinder you got no brakes and a 4000 lb missile to control .

Scope these out and decide which ones you want to save to your computer. It's the 50 Pontiac wiring diagram out of my Motors wiring diagrams book from 1952. My laptop and my scanner don't seem to be speaking to each other at the moment so it was use the Canon at 18 meg. Save the one you want to use and have Costco blow it up poster size if you want as it is yours to do as you please. I posted 3 full page and 2 half page shots as I can't tell which one a guy can read best. On my laptop I can expand the images to see the details real easy.
There are probably some doubles as I hit the full size ****on before they all loaded and hit it again.

Thanks guys that was it. Have headlights and turns over. Few things don’t work like radio and blower and lighter so I’m gonna finish installing the rest of wiring harnesss since it came with a brand new one and doesn’t seem too difficult and clean carb and drop and empty the tank before I start it. Thanks a lot. Guy put new solonoid on it and didn’t hook it back up right and never ran again. Has 931 miles since motor rebuild 71,000 in 2011. original miles on the ***le when he bought it in 06.

Got half of old wiring harness out under dash and all of it under hood. Have everything under hood rewired. Only ruined one screw. All the others came out no prob and have seat out. Have new wiring harness with the car so might as well put it in. Fixed the smashed in tailight. First coat of paint on. Brought ****ernut back home to the farm after a few weeks in town backyard recovering from the removal of her eye. Lol 6DAD04AF-542B-4414-95F2-73AEF8B6A6D6.jpeg
