I'm putting a SBF in my shoebox wondering about trans/rear options... Would a manual 3-speed/3.00 rear be a performance nightmare? I thought about a 5-speed with the original 3.73 rear end, but I think 300hp+ will shred the axles. Any experiences?
With a 3 speed the 3.00:1 ought to work out well for you as far as balance between performance and drivability. If you can get ahold of a 3.70:1 rear-end that can handle some power (an 8.8" or a 9") that 5 speed (or an AOD) would be perfect! Tons of poop in the lower gears and overdrive.
