1952-59 Ford 54 hood shoulder bolt question

    Just installed the hood with new shoulder bolts and wave washers. Not sure i put the washer in right place. The diagram is not crystal clear which is the wave. Also is there another washer..Looks like 2 washers per shoulder bolt. Thanks guys

    the wave washer is shown it is the one between the bolt and hinge arm in picture( the left bottom one)

    Ok Thats what i thought....Got it all together now and everything seems to work (as well as it can) with that pitiful design. Thanks 54vicky

    no problem just keep them lubed there is an art to closing them.not like a modern one:)

    Where did you find new bolts and washers? I can't find my old ones anywhere....

    Carpenter has the bolts, maybe the washers. Seems as how I remember Carpenter listing them for the 52 and 53 but not the 54. I asked about this and the guy I talked to said 54 also.

    Based on my 48, it seems that the same shoulder bolts may go back to at least to 41 as the ones in my 48 are pretty much the same. Never actually compared them.

    Make sure you safety wire the shoulder bolts to keep them from falling out

    most of the wave washers in the aftermarket are 3 wave the original ones were 4 wave.just nitpicking 3 wave will work no need to wire.if you choose to wire study up on it as it is an art to get right.
