Saw this one on a you tube video but they did not mention the manufacturer. I would need this style to clear exhaust on my 55, anyone happen to know who makes this bar by chance?
It looks like the video was done by Eagle Cl***ics Inc, 656 W Main St Rock Hill, SC 29730-3514 and they are no longer in business.
I do wonder how that car would handle if the rear bar matched the front like he said, I’d imagine that the car would “push” or understeer with a large rear bar like that. Can anyone that has done this upgrade comment?
The rear bar looks smaller than the front to me. I think that he was just saying one front and rear. I wish nascardave could comment here. I remember when I bought my front from him that he said he thought a rear would not be necessary, but if so it is smaller in diameter but I don't recall the size he mentioned.
I have the 1 1/8" front sway bar from shoe box central in my 53 Merc and the 5/8" rear sway bar I pulled out of a 1979 Thunderbird at the wrecking yard.
Hi Guys, I would tell you what I know or understand about sway bars. The people in the know tell me, that a 1" sway bar in the front will give Good handling, Good road ability and a very stable ride. They say that if you go with a bigger bar like 1 1/8" it can make the car over steer. I know that this may not always be true because Stig, a member of the board has a 56 ford with my 1 1/8 " bar and has said he has no issues. The rear sway bar that I 've used is 3/4" and in rule of thumb should be used with at least a 1 1/8" front. Just my 2cents, I think the majority of us with these cars (54,55,56) would find a big improvement with a 1" bar and a set of gas shocks. Hope this helps.
I am looking at my original sway bar..3/4 inch. Just wondering if the front A arms are beefy enough for larger diameter swaybar, or do they need a little beefing up. Also wondering how much effect a rear sway bar actually has for a highway cruiser. Opinions?? Thanks Guys
Good to hear from Dave. Being a '57 my suspension is totally different, but.... Aside from everything being rebuilt, I added a 1 1/18 sway bar up front. I have no steering / road handling issues. I changed my rear 4 leaf oem springs to 6 leaf. Before road testing that setup, I had planned on adding a rear sway bar. I have no need for one. My car maybe leans a tad more than it did when the shocks/springs were new 32k mikes ago, but certainly not very much at all.
Hey Dave, good to hear from you. I do have the 1⅛ inch sway bar with no rear sway bar and have had no problems just vastly improved handling. I am a believer in bigger sway bars.
