Just curious, but i go to a lot of car events. Most really good. But Paso's the ONLY one i regret ending. When the other events are over, they're over, i go home. No big deal. Paso, i just can't seem to get over it for a while. Anyone?
It's that rotten-egg Sulphur Spring stench taking it's damn time clearing out of your nose that keeps reminding you..
I went to Paso this year for the first time.It was a great show, and I plan on being a regular from now on. I see what you mean about missing it. There aren't many,if any shows that compare to it. I feel the same way about the Primer Nationals. Best show I ever seen, until I went to Paso. I just wish I would have been there for the cruise on Friday. Not missing that again! Next year my son will be old enough to drive his car too.
AMEN! It's all that "hangin out" everywhere that just can't be beat. The "Show" is just part of it. There's just so much before, during, and after going on that there's just not enough time for it all. Great meeting you Bob, and yeah, the cruise packs the streets with thousands of people. Pretty badd***. You do need to catch it next year.
I am confused with youre post. Do you mean that you will no longer attend, or it's the best thing since the wheel? The wife and I loaded up her '51 box in the trailer and headed up. I have been there for 3 shows and thought that is was really nice. Better than the previous years. Next year, the rpu will be there....................
LOADED UP YER '51 BOX IN THE TRAILER ??????? YOU MEEN YOU DIDNT DRIVE ???? THE DRIVE IS LIKE THE PRE & POST EVENT TO THE EVENT ........... IT AINT WORTH GOIN IF YOU DONT DRIVE YER RIG !! I MEEN, THEY ARE "CARS" .... AND "CARS" ARE MENT TO BE DRIVEN..NO ?
I know what you mean about Paso. By the time next years rolls around I'll have finished paying my credit card bill for this years motel room... and my liver should be back to normal. . Groucho:You staying at the same place again?
Groucho- I said it in another Paso post, but I have DRIVEN (and registered) an old car to Paso every year for the past 11 shows (since 1995). Come hell or high water, I get something running, and I make it there. Why? Because it is my favorite show of the year-- Hands down.
I've been going since '99. If I could only goto one show a year. Paso would be it. /still bummed about losing the Labor Day show....
what happened to the car ? why was it on a trailer..? you have any pics of this car ? was it the one with the billet wheels?
Yeah..It really is depressing leaving that show at the end of the weekend. It's such a good time. You know its a great show when the guys from Japan are paying 2k to ship their cars over for 4 days. Its been a month already and im still thinking about that show just about everyday.
I'm maybe not quite as p***ionate about it as I useta be, but I've entered (and driven) a car there every year since 1993. It's still the one show I wouldn't miss.
1993, so you're the guy with all the stories? I first went in '01 with a couple friends that didn't know the drill apparently. In '02 i went with a guy that did. BIG difference from going with someone that knew all the little "pockets" of goings on around the town. Hell, the first year we stayed in SLO and never even went back to Paso on Sunday. Woke up Sunday morning, and drove home. BIG mistake! If you don't think too hard on the Saturday show, Sunday's still better than most shows. The first year i went ('01) i was walking around looking for food just before the cruise on Friday. I went down the side street by the A&W and there were a bunch of people eating BBQ. I'm asked by some guy what are you looking for? I said, the menu. He says, private party. I appologize and walk away. He says, hey man, i didn't say we won't feed you. I left there with 2 HUGE plates of BBQ! Ribs, chicken, tri-tip, sausage, baked beans, potato salad, you name it. I thought that was cool as hell. You shoulda seen my friends faces when i went back to our spot with the food. So, in '02 i found out you need to be a "regular" at the Budget Inn (my choice) to get a room. Well, jumped in the 41 Willys G***er i had a couple months later, went to the Labor Day show, stayed at the Budget Inn, and have brought a different car there in May and September since. The Labor Day show has died (my first one on '02 was pretty good), but it was a great stepping stone for the next May show. Kinda gave you a taste in between to make the wait a little easier to take. BLA BLA BLA
Reading a post on Ryans site is like real estate in a way. When you buy a home that is questionable, you as a buyer, need to perform due diligence. The same goes here. If you jump into the post, spilling your trailer **** out there, well you have not done your due diligence. This makes for a bitter future. The wifes car was bought on the bay. First time out and it ran and performed great. I would like to someday get a hot rod for myself, but I can't afford it. A red '32 with a TCI ch***is, 350/350, tan tweed interior would be *****in. I don't care for the low cars, they look dangerous. The home built ones are realllyyyyy bad. I hope this clears things up.......................................
I've been going since 88 and working it since 90. I always felt the cruise down with a half a dozen cool cars was like the foreplay before the big ****. But without all the thank you cards. The only car ever on a trailer was the 48 we chopped in the park last September. Sounds so horrific when I say it. The Last September. I used to look forward to the Sept show, more than the Memorial day show. I'm working so much on Memorial day I don't get a chance to see people. September was laid back and you had a chance to really relax. Didn't have to get up at the **** crack of dawn to get a parkng space. Too bad we only got 200 cars. Craig
This year was my first, and I reserved a motel today for next year. Driv'in the custom 54 down for sure .........
I have been every year since 2001, not very long, but I am only 18... Like previously said If I could only go to one show a year Paso would be it. I think the main reason I like it so much is the knowledge of the guys who have done it way before alot of us! I talked to Bill Hines for about an hour Saturday morning and learned more stuff from him then I could imagine! The Guy we went down with is Rod Powells old body man Butch Hurlhey, and he is a great guy, hes been going every year, but he invited us the past few years to go down with him and the group, so now leaving Vacaville about 20 of us leave!! I LOVE PASO!!! -brent
My wife and I have driven down from the High Desert in our 56 Buick with our club Lowdown Kustoms for the last 2 years, we will never miss this show! Mike
Can't remember if I first went in 97 or 98, but I've been there every year since. Definitely a yearly highlight. I lived in that area for 13 years, so its also a good time to visit with friends and catch up. Heck, that was what I did most of Paso this year. 90% of the time I was talking with friends and eating at various places. I didn't spend too much time looking at cars and still had the most fun yet.
You're an evil man flake. Now go to your room and think about what you've done. Dont come out until your ready to apologize. Craig
