I am planing to remove the stationary gl*** on 1930 model A coupe. Looks like i just need to cut the old sealer that is between the metal body and the rubber that is on the gl***. The rubber and sealer are rock hard. Getting ready to paint the body. Before i do that i wanted to get any info from some one who has removed this gl*** before. Thanks for your help
If they're stuck to the sheetmetal you can run a utility knife around them between the rubber and metal, then bump them with a flat hand, looks like you already have the garnish off.
After I took the garnish off my pushed out really easy they had the original canvas rubber looking seal and it was all dried out. If yours are original they should come out easy. If someone replaced them and glued them in you may have to do some cutting on the seal.
I had trouble getting mine out as well. Just keep cutting with a razor blade until it looks like it should be able to move. Use those nylon wedges to get them loose. A little heat helps to soften the packing, whatever it is made of. Just go easy, that gl*** will shatter and splinter. Eye protection too Good luck
Heres my suggestion. Cut the exposed rubber off from the inside of the gl***. Carefully try to remove the gl*** from the car leaving the existing rubber stuck to the body. Once the gl*** is out, you can work on getting the left over rubber off of the body.
What corn fed said. I use a sharp red devil putty knife. Easy to control. If needed you can tap it with a hammer. Put blue tape on the gl*** and wear eye protection. If the gl*** shatters the blue tape will help keep it from getting everywhere.
