I forgot to add,a tight lobe separation angle, like 106 or 108 degrees seems to work well with a tunnel rammed motor of 350-360ci.
    Mines 368”,256 dur/.698 lift/109Lsa,and it’s not nearly as hairy as you’d think.
You have to make sure you’re in the right gear, but it’s not bad at all on the street.
It makes peak power at 7500,but if you put a similar cam in a 383,406,420” sbc,it would lower the peak, fatten the torque, and make it more streetable.
    Just thinking out loud.

I have a buddy running some quick fuel carbs on his Cammer.
I’m going to see him at the Meltdown Drags tomorrow,so I’ll ask him how he likes them.

Here's a picture of the spacer that Edelbrock came up with for the TR2 for a BBC, I have looked for one for the TR1 I have, but I don't think they ever made one. You can see the TR1 in the last picture. I have 660's for both of these manifolds, I like those carbs.

Lots of cam, gearing, and converter (if auto) and it will pull like a beast

Thanks Deuces, and your welcome tonkadawg. I have that Tunnel ram fetish also as you can see, I have the big block and small block versions of all of my favorite tunnel rams, some to new for the forum, but I dig em! Multiple carbs are bad ass in my book...

Yep! I got one for a 289-302 that I want to try on a stock "roller" block with a B-303 cam and GT-40 iron heads....

With the smaller cam the original poster already has, my manifold will work amazing! I have a patented design with four separate small plenums instead of one huge plenum, and it gives a massive low-end torque boost. Runs out of breath around 450HP, but it is incredibly responsive in street driving and has excellent part throttle fuel distribution. Google "Real Street Ram" to read the technical info.

Deuces, that’s a nice combination with that B-303 cam, I built a 347 stroker for my buddy’s 31 Vicky with that cam, except he wanted to use some Edelbrock aluminum heads.

    Hello,
I realize that this post is a little old. I am wondering if anyone found a factory produced intermediate plate for the TR1. I have created a CAD drawing of a spacer for the TR1. It is currently being CNC milled from a solid 1” thick block of 6061 aluminum plate. If anyone is interested I will post some pics.

    Let us know..."how-that-works-out-fer-ye"!
I don't KNOW but, I think the 'old-tech' B-303 cam will not be enough to work well with the roller motor. GT-40 heads will need some massaging too I would bet!

You are right. I dont knew who started that bullshit about high RPM only fir tunnel rams. Long runners increase mid range torque for fact and the plenum feeds the higher RPM’s too . And with the right cam and gearing they will pull strong from 2,500 rpm. And also tunnel ram will always out run a single carb and with less demand on the fuel pump . Keeping the bowls filled in a 600+ HP single carb is a challenge for any fuel system.

My first tunnel ram set up.
Edalbrock set up 2 500 cfm carbs. Haven't got it started yet but getting there.
    On a fresh sbc 383 stroker. 700r4 with a ford 9" rear 3.50 gears.
Goa a older tunnel ram set up with 2 smaller Holly's in waiting.

I'm going to reuse the converter, trans and rear gear from the old 383 sbc setup and see how it works, the converter may stall at a higher speed, both motors shift at 6200 so the gears won't come into play as much, we'll see how she acts.

I need to start looking for one for the Fairlane, the 289 is stout enough that it might work just fine.

Here is a video of my coupe I did a couple years ago, coupe now has a flathead in it. I have a 302 ford roller motor with a b cam(284 dur-498lift?)gt40p heads, limefire headers.pertronics dis.,5spd stick in a glass 32 3 window(2640 with me in it)old wiend tunnal ram 2 390 vac sec carbs in sink.stock squarter is a 25 went up to a 35,stock jets 51(.050 drill hole) went to a #67(.068 drill hole),6.5 power valve.purple sec spring. stock squarter is a none tube type, guy a drill set # 0-60,drill out the squarter and jets till u dial it in it will save u money from buying squarters and jets(when dialed in buy what u need in the sizes that work) at idle i have 20 on the vac guage at highway i have 12 so when i step on it the vac drops below 6.5 the power vale opens and then the secs open with no bog, same with the squarter to help with the transfer to primary circuit. I also had to adjust the secondary throttle plates to close them to bring the idle down to 800rpm(1/4 turn counterclockwise). This was my setup,Ran great and very streetable!! Pete

Not taking either side here........I would keep your current intake and carbs and put the tunnel ram on. Drive the car for a few months and see if it gives you any problems in differing weather conditions. Then resell which ever one you don't want any more. Anything you buy you can resell later, so give it a try.

Just put one on Dad's Falcon. Small block 289, Holley 450's, 9.7:1, solid roller, Windsor jr. heads with a 4 speed Toploader and 4.11 gears. Tuned the best we can in the garage for now. We'll have to wait for springtime to do the test drive. I'm sure more tuning will be in order, but happy so far...

  29. Perfect for a 700 cfm Holley on a Weiand stealth.

My experience with tunnel ram is that it looks cool (in a non-trad sot of a way). Get the one that looks the best. Or any reputable intake builder gives specs and recommendations for use on their intakes. That is a good starting place.

If nothing else, tunnel rams just look cool. I have run all sorts over 50yrs of hot rodding, to include single carbs, dual carbs and Z28 cross rams. All on SBC from 292" to 406". NEVER had any tuning issues, starting issues or
performance issues. They do start to come on after about 3500rpm and just keep pulling. Just sold a vintage
Weiand 360 degree single carb tunnel ram.
