I have an Al intake I cleaned up in my blasting cabinet. I'm going to order a powder coating kit and put an old oven I have to use. The question I have is will the porosity of the Al show with the coating, or do I need to polish the intake first? Thanks
Lay it on nice and thick and it will "flow out". Practice on some s**** first. Make sure you bake the intake first to let it outgas!
Knock em down with 80 grit if you like 'em silky, smooth the sharp edges and remove the logos , no need to polish. This is 80 grit finish I was going to powder coat but I rattle bombed mine instead with Eastwood 2K Ceramic gloss black engine paint to match the block and trans.
Really good job Billy, Looks a lot better than the factory new surface . That’s your low deck engine isn’t it,,,,,,291,,,, looks just like a piece of art ! Or is that your 330 ? Tommy
Used intake? Heat it up in the oven and see if any old oil residue comes to the surface before you coat it.
Had it done by a friend, came out very nice. He did preheat as said above. Probably doesn't hurt that he does it for a living too.
330 tall deck. And thanks. That is high praise from a Desoto fan. @Budget36 make sure you post up some pics of the before and after powder. Maybe I missed it but what color are you doing?
