Got the passenger side aluminum panels and the seat mount, and got a rear door handle cover and the taillight blister for inside. And got a line on 2 more seats. So I almost have everything for the inside. . . . Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Here is the interior of the bus. It’s to bad they stripped it out. If any one knows of a junk yard that has one of these busses with a chrome 3 piece bumper. Need to find one.... Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
@Okie Pete No need to hijack. There's a thread for buses https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/old-buses.1108097/
Front suspension is swapped out with our 48 ford dump truck and I am in the process of removing the old wheels on the passenger side and cleaning up the axle to put a drum on and it should finally roll. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
The bus rolls! Hasn’t had a drum and 6 aired up tires on it for at least 35 years. 8.25x20 get the back end up in the air. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
No old rubber. Donated from our old 48 ford dump truck. Tires and rear axle parts along with the front axle assembly to get it rolling. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Seems like a 70-80's crewcab dually CHEV/GMC would be the perfect donor for everything Eng/trans/rear/frt suspension/etc and be a give away by someone.
That’s what I’m thinking. The cab and chassis rearend will fit with end the body. Just not sure about the spring pads Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
And it moves! Got to finish rolling it around tomorrow before the snow starts falling. Now to finish installing the roof sheetmetal. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
That thing is going to be SO much fun. Whatcha gonna use it for? Take a buncha buds to the races? Home built camper? Take the kiddies to school? Pull your scoot on a trailer to Sturgis?
Take the kids to school, take it to the salt flats. To small for a camper. Would like the inside to look as original as I can. I even have the original over head storage shelves that mount over the windows. Found a early 80’s chevy 1 ton I’m hoping to pick up in March and will have the running gear for it. You gonna use the Chevy wheel size or keep the big Ford size? Or is it just an optical illusion that they aren't similar sizes?
That is one cool ride. Is the wheel base close or are you going to need to alter it. I would drive the wheels off of that bus. paint it school bus yellow and write SCOOL BUS on the side[emoji106] Sent from my SM-A102U using Tapatalk
Back in the 60's or 70's there was a hippiemobile around here that had painted out some of the letters so it read "COOL US"
Disassembled the buses front end and put the dump truck front end on to move everything. Got to move all the inner sheetmetal and I may be able to get it towed home so I can mess around with it with being stuck at home. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
The wheel base is close. Measured it out and the rear spring pads are off by a 1/4 inch. So I think I can fudge the rear end and mount it on the original springs. (May remove a few leafs to improve the ride alittle). The front end will side in between the rails. They unbolt off the frame as a complete unit. Will just have to modify the steering mount. I install a 3/4 ton front end on a 47 coe and it worked really nice. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
