I want to use a steel mechanical fan on my 31 A build. I've used a four blade on my 41 GMC, but it doesn't cool quite as well as I would like. Will a six blade move more air? The four blade looks much better to me in a 30's car. I'll be running a SBC in my A, no fenders, just hood.
Definitely a shroud for best possible cooling, but that may not be the "look" you want. Apart from that, how much radiator area the fan sweeps, and how close it is will also have a big effect where there is not a shroud.
I like what actually works best for a specific application Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I have put a six blade fan from a 6 cylinder ford AC car on my 33 pickup.... it has more of a hook on the blades and It pulls more air than the 4 blade fan that I had on my 289 ..... I don't have a shroud on it and cooling is not a problem...
I have a four blade on my flat head with only a quarter inch from the rad. Not by choice that's all the room I had. Runs cool. I don't have a magic answer for you. Consider the condition of the rad and thermostats.
With an SBC in an "A" your fan is down so low that only a very small OD fan will clear the front crossmember. Costs more upfront, but a Zip's water pump riser will allow you to run a much larger OD fan. Do a search, lots of posts on it.
