Picked this 57 Custom 300 up this past weekend. Found this group through the main page. So far I've seen a lot of info that will be quite useful in making this ride my own.

Welcome to our Group ! As a new member you will notice on the top line "Sticky FAQ" this is a HUGE information file we have put together over the years there is only One Rule about using it,as it is for information only DO NOT post questions in this file use the regular forum for any questions you may have. Also I have tried as moderator to keep out any dead or expired links if you run across any let me know what page you found them on and the Post number. Enjoy the ride here !

Welcome to the group. If you can't get answers here, we can get you headed in the right direction. Pretty solid looking, body looks great, like the color.....tell us about the car. Getting some chrome back on those bumpers and grille would make a huge difference.

I'm in West Islip, lived for a while in East Meadow. You must have lived in The Park if you went to Farmingdale?

I used to race at Islip back in the day, worked in Freeport (and raced there, too). I lived in a subdivision called Viceroy right off Bethpage State Parkway.

I ran Islip from '82 to '84 also Riverhead the same years. Ran Freeport once in '83 the year it closed.

Ran Bombers @ Freeport in '74 & '75. Had a few races in a Modified @ Islip in '75 before I joined the Army. Never got to run Riverhead tho, went to a few races there as a kid in the mid '60s.

Thanks for the welcome y'all. Normally I'm a Mopar guy but, with old cars I'm an I like what I see guy. Besides, I'm pretty sure we had either a Custom or Fairlane when I was young that replaced the 54 Victoria that my parents had when they got married and was rolled sometime in 58 or 59.
Right now my plan is do drive the hell out of it. The 1st things I need to do is get the speedometer and gas gauge working. Speedometer is just a matter of replacing the cable, which came with the car. The gas gauge will be nothing more than running basic electrical checks to see where my issue is (tank and sending unit are new).
First modification I plan is to drop the front a bit using the Aerostar springs.
@Texas57, Not a fan of shiny stuff. Am thinking of doing the grill in a gold similar to whats on the side trim. the bumpers, either black or maybe body color. Since the car was originally a 2 tone, Starmist Blue over Dresden Blue, maybe go with Starmist for the bumpers as it looks like the car is close to Dresden.

If you're running a stock gas gage, that new sending unit should be 73-10 ohms. Here's a link to a great troubleshooting guide for sending unit/gauge issues:
    https://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=results/category_id=159/mode=cat/cat159.htm
The PO may have installed the new tank with something to insulate it from the trunk floor and rubber pads on the straps. I'd start by checking to see if you have a ground between the tank and body, if not your sending unit may need a ground wire.

I raced with the Veltmans, Dave for the most part. Joe was hot at Islip and Freeport in the '70s. I ran well at Riverhead, good times.
