I'm putting a AOD transmission behind the 8ba flathead in my 1939 Ford Pickup build and want to know what shifter would work the best. I'm looking at the 23" single bend lever and the 23" double bend lever. Anyone done this and know which one works the best and misses the seat/dash? Would the 16" shifter lever be better?

AOD? Isn't it just a cable operated?

There are different type shifters for the AOD, cable or rod I don't have either and will need to purchase one.

If you use a cable, then you are not limited in location. I/e easier to massage the location with the cable, rather than a rod.

  5. If it's cable operated you should be able to mount the shift unit on the Floor pan anyplace you want. Personally I like the double bend lever the best.

I like cable, as you don't get the vibration thru to your hand like with the rod version...

I have a Lokar shifter on my AOD and it has the neutral safety switch mounted right on the shifter mechanism and it works nice. Just buy the boot with the shifting pattern on the side. I didn't like their knob so I made a knob that pleased me.

I cut just a little off the X frame to fit the AOD and the U tube videos says if the shifter lever is pointed up the TV cable lever must point down. Are they any reason why both can't point up if there is clearance between the two? I have an older B&M shifter with cable that I do not like at all.
