Does anyone know where on the ch***is, and what the VIN number would be on a '34 Plymouth frame? (i.e. is it the serial number from the body, what font is it, and how is it attached or stamped?)
My '34 PE had the tag on the B pillar (p***enger side), and the frame was stamped in 3 places (driver's side). Frank
Thanks guy's, But I meant on the frame rails. That is what the DMV wants. I have the tag on the door jam, no numbers on my rails. Thanks
A duplicate of the original engine number is usually stamped on the frame behind the left wheel. Usually difficult to find. The serial number is the number on the door pillar by which Chrylser identified the completed cars. engine swaps were so common a**** flathead 6 cars and trucks that not many survivors have their original engine. Calling either a vin number is not really correct.
From www.ply33.com : http://www.ply33.com/misc/vin "One question that keeps coming up is: Where is the VIN (“Vehicle Identification Number” located on the car? The quick and flippant answer is that there is no VIN on the a pre-1950s Plymouth. US Manufactures started using VINs in 1954 and the current 17 character version of the number was mandated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 1981. In the 1930s, 1940s and most of the 1950s, Plymouth cars were shipped with three different numbers: A serial number, an engine number and a body number. It seems that Chrysler used the serial number as the way of tracking the car. From this point of view you would consider the serial number to be the “VIN”. However, many states used the engine number when ***ling and registering cars."
I had the frame of my 34 sandblasted before the build... I didn´t see any numbers on the frame... none at all .Only "PE" is stamped in on the driverside framerail behind the rear wheel.
I found mine, barely ledgible, behind the driver side rear tire, on the outside of the frame. My car is a 1934 Plymouth PG. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
