My column shifter is piss'n me off, getting hung up and **** too often and I don't really want to rebuild it and keep it ... So, my question is who makes a good Floor shifter out there to replace the three on the tree deal. Kind of like the Locar 24-32 inch shifters on thier web-page but not sure how much they run... although im sure they are pricey but good. Thanks for the help and advice in advance Big Tony Lewsiville Texas Forget cookies and milk... give me ***ties and beer
what kind of transmission is it? the Lokars are a couple hundred bucks i think, look for some of their dealers on the internet. Lokar is not a traditional shifter, and only fits the newer automatics, not the original trans that would be in a 54 chevy (either 3 speed manual or powerglide)
I'd like a three speed flor shifter for my 53 bel air , too. I used to have a '54 210 with a floor shifter someone had installed.i believe it was either a Hurst Indy deal or a mr. gasket. I remember it doing ok.I asked my Dad yesterday about installing one in my ride and he said something about it bolting to the back of the ******.He said that just about the only drawback may be due to the shifter arm bend that you may have to set the seat back a little.
hurst still makes 3 speeds or go to swap meets and you should be able to score decent used ones fairly cheap
The Hurst shifters intended for '55-'65 Chevy three speeds can be easily adapted to the '49-'54 transmissions, and are still quite common at swap meets.
Thanks men, I there is a swap meet in Ft Worth in a couple of weeks so i will hold off til then and hopefully help an individual out before a big manufactor Big Tony
I have a floor shifter in my 53, its a Hurst. But I have a 350 auto trans so i dont think that will help you out. But my seat did have to go back a little. Before I swapped the seats. ryan
National Chevy sells a slick floor shift kit for $180. BUT! Have you tried taking apart the box that the shifter goes into? It sits above the steering column just past the firewall on the engine side. Once you see how it works, it's very simple to adjust. I was so pissed off at not being able to get into 1st gear one day and binding up I decided to tear into it. Once I saw how the 1/R shift arm was out of alignment with the 2/3 arm, it was obvious. I repacked the whole thing with grease and now it shifts like a dream!!
