We got the frontend all welded in for good today, cut out the MII crossmeber, put in the crosmember motor mount and bolted the mockup engine in place.

Now we need to order a rearend, a set of old style ladder bars and a transmision crossmemer to get it rolling.

    More to come!

This pic is when the camera operator snuck up and caught me not working, so I grabbed the closest tool around.

What? You never adjusted valves with a pipe wrench before? :D

You going for a gasser style vdub? Is that a completely custom fabed frame underneath to support the power the v-8 will give it?

Yes, he fabbed the frame.... Bug's just have a sheet metal "pan" under them.... It looks like his frame is plenty strong enough to work...

I was asking because I didn't know if there were any sort of V-8 "kits" or anything of the sort. I know the pan my 64 bug has wouldn't hold the weight of a 4 banger. I've only seen one other V8 bug, it had a blown 350 up front. Totally sickening. :D But it had the typical beetle ride height.

Actualy the frame is from a company that makes front engine V8 frames. they also make a fiberglass body to go on it but it looks odd in my opinion. We picked it up from a guy who gave up on his project, then promptly put a straight axle in it and cut out the MII IFS. It is a really well built frame, overbuilt actually.

I was just looking for a VW body to build our own frame for and came across this in NY. All we had to do was extend the front of the frame a little. It was perfect and a hell of alot easier. :D

  7. Cool... you'd better put a tunnel ram on it with velocity stacks!

..or a big blower. Neat car. I see you having to defend yourself everytime you post, but it's no different than an Anglia or a Fiat drag car to me.

I mean, how "traditional" does it have to be?

That thing is great! And I like that it is getting a manual trany. The VW gasser look is at least as traditional as some of the "traditional" stuff around here.

I always thought that traditionaly hot rodding was putting the biggest motor in the smallest car to go the fastest? I can say this, I have never seen a bug like that, it is cool as hell, and it should fly. I'm glad to see you go out and do things a little different. If you have to defend yourself then your defending yourself against the people who copy everyone else. Keep us posted for sure

Thats the plan. Tunnelram with some old style velocity stacks poking out.

And Gotgas, That is the picture that started it all :D

I was thinking of taking four pieces of stainless steel sink pipe and mounting them together for each carb. That way it kinda gets that injection look but it would be more like velocity stacks. Thats what I want to do on my comet gasser

Just re-read the entire post, who is bashing him or causing him to have to defend his creation?

I'm not a VW person and I don't think they should be on this board, but I love this car! Keep up the good work! That thing is going to be sweet.
