Odd wheels

Discussion in 'The Antiquated' started by pigIRON63, Dec 18, 2019.

  1. I was out and about the other day and I acquired a set of wheels. I would like to run them on my 63 Galaxie. I am just curious about when they were produced, the guy that they came from has had them since the early 70s, but he bought them used. My question is how common are they, and about what year they made them. I have waited until now to post the style of them because there are alot of negative thoughts on them. 14" reverse offset chrome plated rally wheels with small Ford 5 lug pattern only. 20191217_173504.jpg 20191217_173523.jpg

Midwest Auto had them advertised in the early 70’s.

  3. Thanks Bowie, is that the earliest recollection? I know GM introduced their rally wheels in 67ish. I was just curious as to when the aftermarket started theirs? I was thinking 69 or 70, but maybe it was later.

I remember them in old Hot Rods, they were real cheap but not bad looking.

Those other humps on them were if they were drilled for a Chevy. Either they were pattern after Chevys rally wheels ....or visa versa! Always liked them!

  6. I have been cleaning them up this week. There are some pits in obvious places, I was thinking if there is a "fake chrome" or "close to chrome" that I could touch up the spots with. Does any body know of one?

  10. I ended up letting them soak in a citric acid solution. They cleaned up well. I'll post some pics later.

Thanks. The cola trick works if it is not real deep.
