So been debating for awhile now on what to do with my 1950 f1. Something I’ve been looking at is putting an earlier car front clip on it. By what I’ve looked at it looks like it would work pretty good. I found this one example but not much more than pictures of this one truck with no info. I believe this is a 41 front end and i may be wrong but I believe the 41-48 cars were similar. If anyone has done this any info would be appreciated on what I’ll be getting into and how close the fenders and hood line up on the cowl of the cab. I will be wanting to fabricate car styled running boards that will bolt up to the rockers instead of truck style that sit below the cab. Probably going to channel the cab to help get the cab lowered. Also kinda debating on doing some 35 styled rear fenders maybe slightly widening them. I sketched this up real quick to have a somewhat idea of what I’m wanting to achieve. that truck looks rad! I want to say Sid Of sids dropped axles has a 47 truck with a 47 car front end and there was very little that he didn’t have to cut. Looks cool though. Should be able to find some info with a good search. if something doesn’t pop up before I have time I’ll look for some info/ photos I know I saw a photo of it recently on a thread
That looks sweet. I’m sure someone has done it just haven’t been able to find much. I found the one truck I posted in a google search. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The reference truck with the 41 front was built by torch or who is here on the H.A.M.B. I believe he has since sold it. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks! Shot him a message about it. Thanks for the input fellas Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yep, Torchie did the 41 car front on F1 cab. Lots of cutting and welding. He sold it before it was finished.
Yea I talked with him a little earlier on it and gave me a lot of good insight in what he did. I need to gather some parts and will probably get a build thread going on mine in the coming months as I make some progress. After talking with him I’m going to put mine on a car ch***is like he did instead of the f1 frame. Lots of great people here and a wealth of knowledge as well. Will definitely keep posted. And thanks to torchie again for the reply and pics & info. It will definitely come in handy Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I seem to recall there was an entire HAMB thread for p***enger car front sheetmetal clips on 30's/40's pickups. One of the best IMHO is 36 Ford car front on a pickup. Maybe someone can provide the link?
That is beautiful. I wish I had an earlier cab to build but right now I want to give the old iron I have some life before I move to something else. And if anyone can find the thread about car front clips on trucks it would help. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks. I’m trying to clear some space and sell some things I have to help fund gathering some parts I’m going to need. I hope I can have a Thread going on it sometime in the coming months. I’m going to be using the truck cab on a car ch***is car front metal and probably going to be y block powered. I have some ideas floating about the roof. I know it’s going to be chopped (roughly 4”) but am debating possibly doing a removable soft top but I don’t know. I want it to have a late 50s-early 60s style custom but don’t want to go too 60s show car extreme. Probably will just stick to a chopped factory top. A few fellow H.A.M.B.ers have given me some good advice on a few things I had questions about before diving into this one. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hello, Ever since I owned two 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery cars, I liked the way it looked over the other sedan delivery vehicles I have seen. The 40’s smooth rear side panels made it have its own character and not be a sedan with the rear window blanked out like other sedan deliveries. But, I have always wondered how it would have been to change the front end, including the hood and fenders from a 1936 Ford Sedan Delivery. I liked the access from either side of the split hood and louvers panels. But at the time, it was way beyond my means and no one had that idea of an alteration of a 40 Ford Sedan Delivery. I have seen 51 Chevy trucks, stock and custom, like we all have. I even took photos of a Black Cherry Red 51 truck back in those early photo shooting days. But, in looking at the latest set of cool flames on what looks like a 51 Chevy nose of a truck, I am puzzled and amazed at the work it took to graft one to another. I have never seen a 51 Chevy front end grafted onto any car or truck with this custom approach to modern, daily driving and cruising? Jnaki The flames were immaculately done and did not over power the custom truck. It stood out from a far away driving distance. So, it is a very nicely done custom truck with all of the amenities of the modern driveline and accessories. But, has the look of a custom car/truck for a semi-vintage look. (Or at least a one of a kind custom truck build.)
I’ll look a little later on I think I remember seeing a thread on it while trying to dig up some information on what I’m wanting to do Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
It's Sid Drapal's truck. No build thread. He cut the truck & car fenders .. then welded 'em together .. where I don't know. Also added an extra grille bar. Love it. Have an old email from him. You can contact him at his shop, for better details. Nostalgia Sid's >>> https://www.droppedaxles.com/photo-album
Yea, Sid did that quite a while back and the truck is now in Sweden if I remember right. But, as mentioned above, there was quite a bit of cutting involved. He could tell you exactly what all he did.
On that truck, that front end just looks so natural. To me, on cars, it always looks ugly and awkward.
