Could be a deal!! "Two lane blacktop '55" Pics wanted...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 'Flyin' Dutchman', Feb 3, 2004.

  1. Some car dealer in the north of our country has this black '55 Bel Air Sport Coupe for sale... It kinda looks like a copy of the Two lane Black top one... The pic he put up on the web was very shady though...
Can anybody post some pics of the Two lane blacktop one? It might give some good inpiration!
Maybe this guy want to trade my '68 Camaro for it... Who knows?

The '55 has a 350/350, disc brakes, flip front (I'm not a fan of those, but what the heck), bucket seats and some Cragars (Which could be of course swapped for steelies with cheaters in the back!)... He's asking $18750,- Wadda ya think..?

My Camaro has a Muncie... Would like to keep that ****** somehow though... [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I sent him an e-mail and asked him some questions...Any tips on what to check out especially well on '55 Chevys? Because I might want to go and take a look...

  2. Here's the shady pic.... I Photoshopped it a little...

That seems pretty high for what your getting. I'd maybe post on CT and see what they say. "2 Lane Blacktop" was a 2 door sedan. Oddly enough, a 4 door sedan weighs the same as a 2 door sport coupe.

  4. CLSSY... What is CT???
You mean it's not equipped very well huh... That's what I think...
On the other hand... If I would have to buy a $16500 car in the U.S., It would cost me another 2000 Euro's to import it here...
Two door '55's are very rare here in Europe...

Yeah two lane blacktop was a post car, not a hardtop.
Hardtops were raced but the post cars were preffered because they were way lighter.

  8. Right on... That's why I was asking for some good pics..I couldn't find too many on the web...

What do ya think of this hardtop??? For it's price...

I like the car, but I would not turn it into another Blacktop clone. ( there are 2 of them here in Tucson )
I even like those wheels with that body style.
What does not work for me, ( on this car with those wheels ) is that too modern scoop.
I'd put an older style one on, or fill the hole.
For a ****** I'd go for a T5. I have one in my Roadster, and I love it...

I'll second that, the scoop is too "Pro-street Camaro."

About choked on that price till I saw where you are.
I sure miss the days when you could pick up one of those for a hundred bucks, buy a wrecked late 60's Impala for another 50, swap engines and go...

The rear tires look like too close a fit to the wheelwells to actually work and the scoop belongs on a supergas camaro, not a 55 Chev. Other than that, it might be a good starting point. Check the rockers and floorpan closely for rust thru.

Here's a clone of the "Two Lane Blacktop" car.
It was a very well done copy with the exception of the sliding door gl***.

The car your looking at looks like a hell of a start, but i agree on both the scoop not looking right on it, and the cost being too high.
Especially if your talking about changing stuff.

There still out there, and you could probably find either a hard top or post car for much less and build what you want out of it.
And you probably wont have his asking price into a different car if you do much of your own work.
My bro in law ( Dat Dirty Rat on here) sold a '55 belair post not even two years ago for under 4000$, and it was a very solid car.
It needed to be gone through, but at that price it was worth it.

I'm no expert on anything, but i do watch the prices of tri-fives only because i've had a '57 ht for 15 years and i'm humored at how much they have increased over time.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

    Rat...

  15. Hey Maurice,....good find where you live!....it'll make a good g***er type chevy....just get rid of the hood scoop and put a third pedal in it! If you need a lead on parts let me know, I might beable to help you out....Oh by the way Flyin Dutchman you have my 55 chevy on your wed site, the green hoodless one from Canada....Say hi to Bas!!

    Cheers, Mark R.

Dude, that price is OUT! My pops bought one for 6g's that is very similar to the pic Rat posted..Plus there is a guy on here trying to sell a 2door post out of Texas for $2500.00 (i think that was the price) in the cl***ifieds..You may have to go back a couple of pages but if your looking to build something like that...then that car is the perfect start! Check it out...Dirty

I tell you what. Buy it and send it over here, and you could probably double your money. Around here I've seen ****y 4 door sedans go for that.I'm not joking !!!!!

  19. That scoop ****s indeed!! And those wheels don't fit the wells very nice in the back... I would never turn that thing into a "TLB" copy, I'd make my own old skool g***er out of it.
The guy who owns it never e-mailed me back until now. I'll send him another mail.. (The Dutch car scene is overloaded with ***holes!)

The best thing for me would be to sell my car here and buy another one in the States, but I just can't get rid of mine... People out here just love musclecars, but I think most of 'em just don't have the cash to afford mine... I put too much money in the damn thing to make it perfect, and now I can't loose it! Maybe I'll just have to try to sell it one more summer... Some dude should show up buy it one day...
