so i have a question regarding the c5 transmission in my 54. the selector on the side of the transmission is backwards.. to put it in park you put the selector towards the tailshaft and all the other gears would be going towards the torque converter. is this normal?? if i wanted to use the column (which is what i wanted) id have to select gears starting from bottom to top rather than top to bottom and same if i used a floor shifter park would be at the seat and L2 would be at the dash. is it supposed to be reversed like that?

This guy is a Ford Transmission Guru and has a series of build videos available I would watch this and ask him this question after you watch it. I know with an AOD the levers are flipped depending if it came from a column shift or floor shift maybe a C5 is similar. Most Ford transmissions if the lever is pointing up it's floor shift if it pointing down it's column.

yea i called a guy i know who does them and he said the easiest way to get to it was to pull the valve body out otherwise you need a special wrench i got up in there and saw what he was talking about.

So because of the selector i have i was unable to flip mine 180° like i wanted but it like the aod and C4 it can be flipped its just mine happened to hit the transmission because its bent at a 90. C4 vs C5 trans are the same except the C5 has 2 pieces to its valve body that have 2 long bolts that go thru the small part and big part of the valve body that hold the whole thing on plus 7 other 3/8 bolts on the bigger part so 9 in total. the ***tle screws dont need to be messed with. other than that any C4 video if pretty much the same and its good to know incase the seals ever leak on the selector and there are 2 of them. what i circled is the nut that takes the selector out and the arrow is pointing to a small C clip thing that fits in a groove there is NO need to take this out i learned the hard way and lost it but finally found it.

i did have to unthread my selector all the way but thats because of the kind i have otherwise you shouldnt need to take that nut holding it in there all the way off. its a 7/8 nut

does that go over the round part like the diagram shows? it looks like it fits over the kickdown with the way its cut so is that what the other fittings are for? or is it just a general picture
