Hey guys i have a question regarding the manual steering box on my 1953 chevy 210. I've spent the last three years redoing the driveline on the car and got to drive it for a bit last summer. while doing the driveline i tried to get the steering box rebuilt. both the sector gear and the worm gear are pretty worn. a local guy whose been doing this for years tried finding replace worm gears and sector drive but couldn't can anybody recommend a place that can rebuild those boxes.

It's not the rebuilding thats the problem it's finding the parts to do it as your finding out.

Last summer had a customer bring us a gear to rebuild. We couldn't locate parts either. The next plan of attack was trying to find good used pieces to rebuild his.

The customer found a couple good used pieces but due to the prices he went to a different set up.

    Good luck in your quest.

I'd first look for another used complete steering gear, from someone doing a front end swap.

hey guys so i looked at some websites and saw that Ecklers early chevy sells a completely rebuilt vega steering box that is designed to bolt into 1949 to 1954 chevys. I am curious wether i can remove the old box myself and install the new one myself. if I need special tools or have to do adjustments on the box ill have a professional do it.

If you have to ask, you probably need help. For one thing, the steering column is part of the original steering gearbox, it's one ***embly, so you need to find a way to install a steering column.
