Sage a 352 will fit on the stock V8 mounts just turn so the mounts move the engine the farthest forward and the engine will miss the firewall. This is 180 degrees from the way the Y block used them.

I really appreciate you confirming that. I hope its that easy!! I think I'm following you correctly. Nevermind this horrible photoshop job but is this what you are recommending? IMG_2456-2.jpg

Even easier. I believe sunbeam means that you turn the motor mounts on the engine 180 degrees. Been a long time since we did an FE into a 56 but I do not remember any crossmember work.

Yes the frame stays the same it's the rubber mounts you turn. Use the 2 bolt mounts

That just seems too good to be true! I really hope that's the case, I'll probably find out this weekend. Did you do a similar swap on something you own?

Does this look right? First photo is how they came on this 352, 2nd photo is them rotated 180. Did a dry run to see if they would line up and my oil pan bottoms out on my cross member before the mounts drop into the bottom holes on the frame.

Ahh, that would make more sense! I would imagine the 56 mounts are much thicker to compensate for the smaller 312 block?

When I punch on that group I get an error code. Are these groups seperate form regular hamb posting? I have looked for groups before and have never been able to really find any group that is active. Maybe I could get some help?

@Boneyard51 at the top of the page next to the search function there is a tab that looks like several people. If you do a drop down from that ****on you will see a tab for social forums. Click that and you will see the 53-59 social forum.

When I go there it says I have insufficient privileges to go there. The forums I can go to, have no or real old activity.

If you want to avoid the ***-kissin’, when you navigate to the forum page, in the upper right on the line below the forum ***le is a label “Social Forum Tools” with a down arrow. The down arrow gives you a drop-down menu with one choice being “Join Social Forum”. Selecting this should let you see it all with nary an *** kissed.......

Not yet man, I wish. I ordered what I believe are the correct original mounts and they'll be here on Wednesday. Fingers crossed that will line up for me. My next biggest concern is that steering box and where that transmission is going to fall.

Do you happen to know if there is a popular swap for this year on a steering box that might be a little more "low profile"?

Unfortunately not yet man. The mounts I had didn't line up and left me about an inch floating above my cross member mounts because my oil pan bottomed out. I ordered original mounts which were recommended to me from the fine folks here, they should arrive on Wednesday. Hopefully this does it and I can focus on the next series of problems. Headers, steering box, and transmission support from what I'm seeing and have read.

Do you happen to know if there is a popular swap in this era of car for a more "low profile" steering box?

    Many thanks to all!

You could always put a SMALL BLOCK CHEVY in it. Lots of room, Lots more power for a lot less money.
    Reliabilty is far better.

  27. I never had any steering box issues. Im fixing to do the FE swap again. I have a 62 tbird engine. Its a 390. I intend to pull the 262 from a 55 ford wagon and install the 390 FE. this time I will use a 76 bell flywheel clutch and full syncro top loader 3 speed. use the later starter water pump alternator and brackets. might change the heads and use the later heads that are compatable with unleaded gas? The ole wagon has overdrive at present. So it has a Dana 427 to one gear ratio rear end. ought to be interesting to test it out!

Hey fella's, so I tried the new mounts that I ordered today. They bolted up to the block in 2 spots just as some of you have suggested. When I dropped the engine in though it fell right between the two slots on my crossmember. I guess I could just drill out a spot right between the two? However, I would like it to drop in the top slot. Does anyone have any tricks they'd be willing to share or am I missing something?

On a side note, I dropped my pan and put a new gasket on it. Now I have a leak happening right where the rear main seal/pan meetup. Did I do this? I can't tell if its the seal or if I did a poor job of putting on the gasket and missed some old debris or something?
