Let me know when if you do, I'll try and bring the Firebird. I doubt I get the Lincoln together before late summer, if by then.

Is your class making a T roadster or a tub/modified? If you want to make a tub, I have the back half of a 4 door T phaeton that I would happily donate to your class. It’s not in horrible shape, most of it is there, I can send you photos if you would like. Or not.

  4. Thanks for the offer. The T is a restoration
Using it to demo metal shaping and welding sheet metal
I did have plans for using it for patterns to possibly reproduce one in metal once it’s in primer.
The only issue when you donate to a school it’s no longer able to be street driven due to insurance issues.

  6. We did an odd project with an old fridge. Our HVAC instructor asked us to do this fridge. Said we could use our imagination. It was a big rusty piece of junk but we did what we could. He collects Pepsi machines so we used that as a theme. I also thought we could learn a little hand painted sign work.
I know some of you guys hate fake patina but this is the best we could do with this thing. We were afraid to blast it because most of it would have disappeared
Anyway here it is. We are using this in competition as a project on sigh painting and will be displayed unfinished like this to demonstrate the process

The Pepsi is in the “patina” stage
The bottom of the flont door and Orange Crush side are in the design/layout stage

  8. Been a while but we haven’t done a lot of hamb friendly stuff lately.
Thought you might like this light surface rust removal we did.
This roof was sandblasted but had a lot of flash rust. We used diluted CLR with a scuffpad on a DA sander.
    Did a very good job.

Are you going to use a TH400 behind it?

  13. State district Skills USA competition
We compared a siphon to an HVLP gun.
Shot both single stage and base clear in a solid and metallic color.

We got a bronze. Going to state with it.
The students thought the siphon gun felt weird. The solid colors look the same for both guns. The single stage metallic was not near as glossy as the base/clear. The metallic looked more grainy.
The siphon had slight darker areas in the base compared to the HVLP
The metallic looked a little more grainier as well
The siphon gun cost $16 more to spray the panels in clear over the HVLP gun.

It’s been over 20 years since I used a siphon gun. I hope this was our last.

I always enjoy your posts and especially like hearing about how well your students are doing in their competitions and their certifications. Too many educators are focusing on college prep while the technical course are treated like a red haired step son.

  21. Haven’t posted much due to the virus. But we finally managed to finish up the 500 caddy engine.

  22. We have been very slow with projects due to the virus issues.
However, our projects will be on display at the Birmingham Auto Show next week.
We are part of a technical school showcase.
Currently all we have to do is paint the chassis and firewall.
Install the engine and trans. We work the wiring and fuel lines. Cut a driveshaft and rework the front brake lines.
6 days should be plenty of time

Sounds like you all will be busier than a one armed wall paper hanger. If you get a chance/time some photos would be great. Good luck with the showcase.

1st block prepped the firewall for primer
2nd block got the primer shot
3rd block started the primer blocking. I’m finishing it up.
Students hooked up the engine and trans and got all the adapter stuff figured out

I always enjoy seeing what students achieve. Just a curiosity question... how many females in your courses?
